Some individually-owned rooms are more dated than others
The three-pearl Meridian Plaza is a small condo-like hotel that offers few features compared to most Myrtle Beach hotels. While the indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs are great, there aren't amenities beyond free Wi-Fi, a laundry room, and parking. There’s no gym, restaurant, or breakfast served. The 92 condos are outfitted with ocean view balconies, flat-screen TVs, and kitchens, but lack daily housekeeping. As some units are individually owned, it’s hard to predict if you’ll end up with something dated with maintenance issues or a unit that’s contemporary and clean. The location on the beach and within a 10-minute walk to the Myrtle Beach Convention center are the major draw. For those who want a room with a kitchenette, Sands Ocean Club Resort is a good alternative with a restaurant, spa, and kids’ club.
Scene
Condo-like property with a casual atmosphere and few public spaces
Meridian Plaza is a small property compared to the mega resorts of Myrtle Beach. It draws a low-key crowd of business travelers and families who are focused mostly on the beachfront location and self-service units. For a hotel with little atmosphere beyond what you might find in a condo or apartment complex, the lobby is attractive with wood laminate floors and a blue, white, and brown color scheme. There are a few sitting areas like a bench and contemporary plush chairs where guest can enjoy a cup of free coffee provided in the lobby. Guests can also socialize on the outdoor lawn area facing the ocean where some tables, loungers, and colorful Adirondack chairs are set out.
Location
Myrtle Beach beachfront location about a 25-minute walk from the boardwalk
Meridian Plaza has a beachfront location that’s not too far from the main action of Myrtle Beach. It’s a 25-minute walk to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade and a six-minute drive to Broadway at the Beach. The hotel's surrounding area is filled with casual dining options (McDonald's, Arby's, River City Cafe) and mini-golf. The Myrtle Beach Convention Center is a 10-minute walk away. It takes seven minutes by car to reach the closest golf course. The Myrtle Beach International Airport is a 15-minute drive away.
Rooms
Mix of contemporary and dated condos with kitchens and balconies
It’s hard to provide an overall description of the condos at Meridian Plaza, since many of them are individually-owned and decorated. Some units are contemporary and clean with a mix of tiled and carpeted floors and a beachy vibe in light wooden furniture and art work on the walls. Other units have maintenance and cleanliness issues and show visible wear and tear. Amenities are similar across the rooms and include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and kitchens with stoves, ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, sinks, dishwashers, toasters, cookware, platter ware, and utensils. Bathrooms are equipped with shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers. All rooms offer balconies with ocean views, either partial or full. Smoking is not allowed on balconies. Keep in mind that daily housekeeping is limited to trash and towel service. This means that housekeeping does not make the beds daily or replenish toiletries when they’re low (though additional toiletries can be obtained from the front desk for free).
Features
Pools, free DVD rentals, and a laundry room
Meridian Plaza's best features are its location on the beach and the indoor and outdoor hot tubs and heated pools. Freebies include DVD rentals, Wi-Fi, and outdoor parking. Guests can do laundry in the coin-operated laundry room. There’s no gym, restaurant, or breakfast on-site.
