Bottom Line

Long Bay Resort, on the quieter north end of Central Myrtle Beach, offers 286 oceanfront condos, suites, efficiencies, and standard rooms, and several water activities, including a 250-foot enclosed heated lazy river that is open all year. The hotel could use some sprucing up, but it's on one of the most scenic stretches of Myrtle Beach, and within walking distance of many restaurants and bars.

Scene

This moderately priced hotel on the beach attracts a mix of families and snowbirds.

There's a little something for everyone at Long Bay Resort, and a mix of people is what to expect. While the hotel itself is far from party central, its location amid many other hotels, bars, and restaurants makes it an attractive option for many.

Location

Located on the north end of Myrtle Beach along the strip, Long Bay Resort, although not in party central, is within walking distance of much of the action.

On North Ocean Boulevard in Central Myrtle Beach, the hotel's location on the strip means easy access to bars, restaurants, and other hotels, in addition to its 720 feet of prime beachfront property. The resort is about a five-minute drive to the Cane Patch Three driving range, and about a 15-minute drive to the Northwood Shopping Plaza.

Rooms

Condos, suites, efficiencies, and standard rooms are available, but many need updating.

Long Bay Resort offers several different room sizes among its 286 options, including standard rooms, suites, efficiencies, two-bedroom apartments, and three-bedroom condos. Many, however, need updating. Some rooms were found to be dark and damp, and some had a musty smell. Some of the fixtures were rusted, and balcony doors can be difficult to open. Some rooms share a wall with the parking garage, which leads to noise as other guests come and go from the hotel. Rooms have kitchenettes, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs.

Features

Close to Myrtle Beach nightlife, Long Beach Resort still makes an effort to cater to kids.

An oceanfront pool, an indoor pool and several whirlpools seem a must for most Myrtle Beach hotels, and Long Bay Resort doesn't disappoint in the water-fun department. There's also a kids' club, a kiddy pool, a lazy river and a game room for young guests. For the adults, there's the Starbucks in the lobby and a spa at the hotel's sister property North Beach Plantation. A restaurant, cafe, and bar are also on the grounds, and there's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
