Sandwiched between towering condos, this small, family-owned budget hotel on the south end of Myrtle Beach offers modest rooms with a prime beach location. It's a nice haven for families, and for low-key couples looking to hang out around a pool and play in the surf. The rooms are dated and basic, but there are only 55 of them, so the beach is less crowded than those at neighboring properties.

As opposed to the resort giants that line Myrtle Beach, the small family-owned Gazebo Inn sits quietly among a throng of high-rises, offering character and charm. The quiet, laid-back atmosphere seems to appeal to older adults, many of whom are repeat guests, and families who don't require organized activities and tons of amenities.

The Gazebo Inn is easy to miss, as its much smaller than the hotels on either side of it. It's located in a quieter part of town on the southern end of Myrtle Beach. The airport, mini-golf, and Family Kingdom, a water and amusement park are all a five-minute drive away. There are nearly 100 golf courses in the area, some only 15 minutes away. It takes about 35 minutes get to the floating casino.
Rooms
Simple and clean, if a bit old-fashioned
Rooms are simple and clean with old-fashioned patterned bedspreads, sturdy white-washed knotty pine furniture, and old-school tube TVs. Bathrooms are cheery and in good condition. A microwave, coffeemaker, mini-fridge, and a small table with two chairs are tucked into each room, making it easy to prepare and eat breakfast or lunch. Oceanfront rooms have balconies thoughtfully furnished with rocking chairs, a good place to enjoy morning coffee. Efficiencies come fully equipped with full-size refrigerators, stoves, toaster, dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. Rooms are nonsmoking, but smoking is allowed on the balconies.

The prime feature of this property is its location -- directly on the beach. It has a pool and hot tub with ocean views, as well as blue mesh cloth and plastic loungers. Though the lobby is not a place to socialize, it has a vending machine for snacks, a pot of coffee going, and is stocked with tourist brochures. Parking and Wi-Fi are free.
