Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort

Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort is a massive resort with three towers that caters to families. The amenities and ocean views from oceanfront rooms and restaurants are notable highlights, especially when compared to the dated and fairly compact lobby. It features brown tiled floors and just enough room for lines to form for check-in and check-out. Unfortunately, there’s no seating where guests can relax while waiting for their rooms. The breakfast room is far more modern with wood laminate floors, ocean blue walls, and chic hanging lamps. The restaurant features colorful walls and bamboo chairs. While there are some dated spaces throughout the property, it’s not much different than what’s generally found among the beachfront hotels in Myrtle Beach. 

Those who want a beachfront location in Myrtle Beach will like this hotel, though keep in mind it’s an eight-minute drive west of the Myrtle Beach Promenade. There are some casual restaurants within the immediate area, within a 10-minute walk or so from the property. Those with a car will find it easy to get to Whispering Pines golf course -- a seven-minute drive away -- and Family Kingdom Amusement Park, a four-minute drive away. For shopping, the Market Common takes six minutes to reach by car, while the Coastal Grand Mall is a nine-minute drive away. It’s a seven-minute drive to Myrtle Beach International Airport, though the hotel has an airport shuttle that can be booked upon reservation. 

The rooms at Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort come in a variety of configurations from standard rooms to efficiencies, suites, and even condos. All rooms feature a simple, beachy-like design, though some have had their carpets, curtains, and armchairs updated. Some guest rooms have a blue and green color scheme, while others have earthy tones in the gray carpet and orange and brown curtains. Beach-inspired artwork on the walls seeks to create a relaxing atmosphere. 

Amenities are plentiful with flat-screen TVs, DVD rentals, mini-fridges, microwaves, free Wi-Fi, and safes. Standard rooms lack coffee- and tea-making facilities, while suites, condos, and efficiencies feature kitchens or kitchenettes with refrigerators, microwaves, sinks, stoves, ovens, coffeemakers, cookware, and platter ware. Take note that coffee and filters are not provided in rooms, but can be requested from the front desk. Furnished balconies in all rooms are a great perk but only some have full ocean views, while others offer partial ocean views. Bathrooms are equipped with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. 

The dated rooms have received multiple complaints about cleanliness and maintenance issues.

There is plenty on offer at the family-friendly Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort, especially when it comes to water features beyond the ocean. The hotel has a whopping 23 water-focused amenities that includes indoor and outdoor pools (some of which are heated), hot tubs, a lazy river, kids’ pools, and a water park with slides for all ages. The outdoor water amenities are all serviced by a Tiki Hut serving a casual food and drink menu. Families can enjoy much more beyond the pool areas, such as a game room, kids’ club, karaoke at night, shuffleboard, DVD rentals, and a large chess game. Adults can take advantage of the spacious fitness center with cardio and weight machines. 

In between the fun, travelers have a lot of options to refuel. At Compass Rose, there’s a traditional Southern breakfast buffet of french toast, biscuits and gravy, and grits that costs a fee, and a coffee shop selling Starbucks coffee and pastries. The Crow’s Nest Restaurant has a diverse American menu with an indoor and outdoor oceanfront seating. Room service is not available here. For snacks, drinks, or beach-related items, guests can head to the gift shop. There's a small business center and free Wi-Fi. Other amenities include a coin-operated laundry room and free parking. Pets are welcome seasonally for a fee.
