Not much to set it apart from other Myrtle Beach hotels
Dated decor in public spaces
Picture a classic Myrtle Beach hotel, and chances are it looks a lot like the budget-friendly Beach Colony Resort. With direct ocean access and a convenient Central Myrtle Beach location (a bit north of the boardwalk), there are plenty of reasons to choose this hotel -- not the least of which are the condominium-style hotel rooms that are perfect for families. Still, the hotel could use some updating, especially in public spaces. The rooms themselves run the gamut in terms of decor, since each is owned by individual owners and rented out through the hotel.
Scene
Not too fancy and needs a little updating, but offers direct beach access
As a beach destination, Myrtle Beach offers great value for the money. The same can be said of Beach Colony Resort. And like the vacation destination it calls home, the resort offers a few hidden gems for those in the know. The garden is a nice respite when it's time for a break from the busy beach, and the seashell cleaning station is a charming touch.
Location
Central Myrtle Beach location with direct ocean access and close proximity to many top attractions
One important aspect of a successful beach vacation is location, and for those seeking a classic Myrtle Beach vacation, Beach Colony Resort's Central Myrtle Beach location fits the bill. It's just a short drive north of the boardwalk area and enjoys easy access to those attractions and conveniences, but it's just enough of a distance away to offer a bit more serenity. Except on the busy beach, of course, to which the resort has direct access.
Rooms
Could use updating, but all the essentials are covered
The condominium-style rooms range from studios to four-bedroom suites, making this an attractive choice for families and groups of all sizes. But it's probably not a place to visit for travelers who've an interest in interior design. The condos are homey and individually decorated by the owners, but expect datedness issues such as carpets and cheap floral bedspreads. Even the rooms that command the highest prices could stand to be spruced up, and those that are the cheapest really need it: think microwave ovens with a knob instead of a touch screen. Still, having a microwave at all comes in handy, and each unit has one. Other kitchen appliances vary from kitchenettes in the smaller rooms to spacious, full kitchens in the larger. Many, but not all, units have balconies and most have flat-screen TVs. All come with hair dryers, DVD players and in-room coffee.
Features
Rain or shine, there's plenty to keep the family occupied at Beach Colony Resort.
Beach Colony Resort's oceanfront location and direct ocean access is naturally one of its best features. But there's much more, particularly when it comes to water fun. The two outdoor pools overlook the Atlantic and there's a whirlpool close by. There's also an outdoor lazy river. Inside, there's an indoor whirlpool and an indoor pool, so visitors are covered when the weather isn't ideal for a beach vacation. There are a few dining options including a seasonal ice cream bar called Shark Bites that is sure to be a hit with the kids. Guests looking for quiet time away from the beach can enjoy the resort's garden. For those looking for more action, there's a video game room and a racquetball court; on the more practical side, there are guest laundry facilities and free Wi-Fi.
