Overlooking the old port, the Omiros Hotel has an enviable cliffside location within walking distance of dining and nightlife in Mykonos Town. There's a rooftop bar and terrace to take advantage of the excellent views, but the budget hotel offers little else. Guests have to traverse steep stairs to get around the property and there may not be staff on hand to help with baggage. The 10 simple rooms are on the small side, but each has a patio or balcony. It's worth checking rates at the nearby Hotel Tagoo which also includes free breakfast and an outdoor pool.
Scene
Cliffside perch with handmade furnishings
The family-owned Omiros Hotel has been in operation since 1963, with timeless views from its classic white buildings cut into the steep cliff. Narrow stairs lead down from the road past a small sun deck and the stone buildings, mostly plastered over and whitewashed. The main terrace has curving hand-carved benches beset with blue and white pillows under wood-beam pergolas and cane awnings. Guests, mainly couples, can enjoy the light breakfast outside on the terrace, where clay pots filled with flowers and greenery lend charm to the cozy scene.
Location
Overlooking the old port in Mykonos Town
The hotel is tucked below a busy hillside road on the north end of Mykonos Town, near a bus stop and a few restaurants. It's within about 10 to 15 minutes' walking distance to the island's most vibrant nightlife and high-end shopping, along with attractions like the Aegean Maritime Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos. Saint Stephanos beach and Little Venice can both be reached in about 15 minutes on foot. The ferry terminal and new port are a few minutes' drive from the hotel, while the Mykonos Airport is about 10 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Small rooms with balconies or patios
The hotel's 10 air-conditioned rooms have a simple Cycladic decor with a predominately white color scheme, accented by grayish wood-laminate furnishings and pale green doors. Views are either of the Aegean Sea or the hillside and garden, and each room has a furnished patio or balcony shaded by a cane awning. Most rooms are small without sitting areas, though a few larger rooms have extra living spaces and small desks. Each includes free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and a mini-fridge. The tiled bathrooms have with mirrors set in handmade mosaic-tile frames with either shower-tub combos or tiny corner showers with pull curtains. Robes and slippers and a few toiletries are provided. Mini Suites and Family Rooms have connecting doors between two separate rooms.
Features
Rooftop terrace, outdoor bar, and free parking
The hotel has an outdoor bar with covered seating and an adjacent rooftop terrace that has beautiful views over the old port on the Aegean Sea. There's no full restaurant or meals offered, but a light breakfast consisting of coffee, juice, and cookies is served on the terrace daily. Above the terrace is a small sun deck with several bright-blue wicker loungers facing the sea. Given the cliffside location, there's no private parking within the grounds, but free parking is available along the road near the hotel's entrance. The hotel is planning to begin renovations and build a pool in late 2015 or 2016.
