The impressive views of the Aegean Sea and harbor provide a lovely backdrop for this peaceful value hotel. It has an away-from-it-all atmosphere thanks to its distance from Mykonos Town, and the vibe is laid-back. We saw guests congregating at the pool area during the day, and it can sometimes get busy, but not overcrowded. Built in 2002, the architecture is typically Cycladic, with whitewashed walls, painted blue shutters, and stone pathways linking the buildings. Decor is simple and traditional, though some areas like the small lobby feel a tad plain and dated. The restaurant/bar has a bright, airy feel with white walls, spot lighting, and nautical touches such as anchor-framed mirrors and blue drapes. The hotel also has beautiful green gardens dotted with flowering vases, plus tropical palm trees surrounding the pool. Most guests are families and couples, drawn to the quieter part of the island. It's worth noting that this property has many steps, which may be a challenge for some.

Makis Place is set away from the party vibes of Mykonos Town, making it an ideal location to kick back and relax. For those looking to explore the island a little more, the Sea Bus and bus stop are right on the doorstep, and it's around a 10-minute drive to the Mykonos Town center. Alternatively, it's a 30-minute walk. There are plenty of sites to see in Mykonos Town, including Paraportiani Church, the Windmills of Mykonos, and Little Venice. Guests can also get to Naxos and Paros Island from the commercial port just across the road, and the golden sands of Agios Stefanos Beach are around a five-minute walk from the hotel, where you can find numerous beachside restaurants and bars. The airport and old port are both around a 15 to 20 minute drive from the hotel. 

This property offers several room types to suit a range of budgets. Entry-level rooms are basic, with plain decor and wooden furniture plus dated fabrics and patterns. Other rooms are a touch more modern, and feature white walls, minimal furniture, crisp white bedding, and big, bright canvas paintings. All 47 rooms include modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, mini-fridges, safes, phones, and free Wi-Fi, while some have balconies or verandas with sea or pool views. Bathrooms vary in style too, with the better rooms offering modern, well-finished spaces with good-sized glass-enclosed showers. Entry-level rooms, though, have small, basic bathrooms with tiny walk-in showers, hand-held sprayers, and dated shower curtains, which may be problematic for some. All bathrooms include free toiletries and a hairdryer. Keep in mind that some guests have found the proximity to the port to translate to noise.

Makis Place has some attractive facilities and impressive sea views. A small outdoor pool with an adjoining children's pool overlooks the harbor, surrounded by reclining sun loungers that are ready-made for tanning, and tropical palm trees providing some shade. The poolside bar/restaurant serves a variety of drinks, cocktails, and Mediterranean dishes. It also serves a free continental breakfast buffet consisting of boiled eggs, Greek yogurt, fruit, pastries, cereals, coffee, and juices. The hotel offers a free transfer service to the airport and port, as well as free parking, Wi-Fi, and tea/coffee in the common areas.
