Small rooms
Perched on a hill above the harbor, the Hermes Mykonos Hotel has incredible views from nearly every window and balcony. Its distance from town is ideal, as it is close enough to walk to restaurants and bars, but far enough away to avoid the party scene noise. The rooms are richly decorated in marble and feature private balconies or patios. The small size of some rooms can be a drawback for guests, however. The pool is also small, but for a hotel with only 37 rooms in such close proximity of other attractions, crowding isn't much of an issue. It's a bit slim on the amenities, but it's a great location for anyone seeking an upscale spot who doesn't mind a short walk uphill to get from town to the hotel. Prices may be a bit higher than at the Porto Mykonos Hotel, but rooms here are more luxurious.
Scene
White, bright, and airy
The white-on-white, classic Mykonian-style interiors are elevated beyond commonplace luxury by copious amounts of marble and views of the Aegean. From the open-air lobby to the guest rooms, the entire hotel is airy, bright, and elegant. All throughout the property, exposed wood beam ceilings and wall-to-wall white paint meet marble or stone tiled floors and all-white wood furniture. Young tourist couples make up the vast majority of the guests, who frequently head down the hill into Mykonos Town or to the beaches.
Location
On a hill above Mykonos Town
The Hermes hotel is above the old harbor and set off a bit from a busy street that winds down into Mykonos Town below. It’s around a 10-minute walk to the island's vibrant nightlife, the high-end shopping on Matoyianni Street, the Aegean Maritime Museum, and the Archaeological Museum of Mykonos. Several beaches are less than a 15-minute drive away, depending on traffic. Both the ferry and Mykonos Airport are within a 10-minute drive of the hotel.
Rooms
Luxurious, with modern bathrooms and private balconies, but on the small side
Like the rest of the hotel, the guest rooms exude an airy elegance. The walls, exposed wood beam ceilings, and wood furniture in the rooms are all painted white with a dash of color provided by patterned fabrics and fresh flowers. The floors are wall-to-wall marble, which even extends out onto the balconies (the patios are stone). All rooms feature views of the town below and the sea beyond. Thoughtful touches include heavy curtains and window shutters to block out the hot Mediterranean sun for afternoon naps. Satellite TVs, mini-fridges, and in-room safes come standard, but there are no coffeemakers. Bathrooms are clean, modern, and also decadently covered in tile, marble, or stone. They come with a high-end line of natural toiletries. The one major drawback is that some rooms are on the small side.
Features
Snack bar, breakfast buffet, outdoor pool, and sundeck
The bright, luxurious interior spaces with their excellent views of the town, harbor, and windmills of Mykonos are the hotel's greatest selling point. An outdoor lounge, which sits above the small outdoor pool and sundeck, also features great vistas. The Archipelagos pool bar and Hermes lounge bar offer plenty to drink and snacks are available all day, but there is no real dinner service. Great local dining is within walking distance downhill though, and the hotel does serve a full breakfast buffet with eggs, meat, and Greek classics that include dolmas. The lobby has a TV lounge and stacks of games for rainy days. There is also a doctor or nurse on call 24 hours a day. In addition, car and bike rentals are available on-site for convenient transportation through Mykonos Town's winding roads.
