Scene
Sophisticated and romantic property with spectacular ocean views
The Grecotel Mykonos Blu Hotel echoes the island vibe: upscale and romantic, with stunning Aegean Sea views from multiple vantage points. The architecture and decor combine traditional Cycladic white stucco, arched doorways, and interesting ceilings, with modern furniture and bright island artwork, plus a few fun blue-painted mule statues. Guests willing to pay a pretty penny can add a laundry list of luxuries, including private butlers and chefs, bath butlers, packing and unpacking service, helicopters, and limousines. But even guests who opt for the standard four-pearl experience will be met with a welcome drink and fruit tray upon arrival. There are no organized activities, and while the hotel doesn't cater to children, kids' menus and in-room childcare for a fee is available. Still, the cozy rooms and tranquil vibe lend itself better to vacationing couples. However, sometimes, the famed Mykonos nightlife (an 11-minute drive away) can be heard from the hotel grounds.
Location
On Psarou Beach, within a 15-minute drive of downtown, nightlife, and popular tourist sights
The Grecotel Mykonos Blu Hotel is located on the main road leading to Psarou Beach, and it has a private section of the beach all to itself. The hotel is surrounded by beach bars, restaurants, and shops, and the renowned Mykonos nightlife, town center, Archaeological Museum, and famous Mykonos windmills are all an 11-minute drive from the resort. Platis Gialos Beach is a 15-minute walk, as is the famous Nammos Restaurant and Beach. The Old and New Ports are within a 15-minute drive from the property, while the island's airport is an 11-minute drive. Airport transfers are available for a fee, and should be arranged before arrival.
Rooms
Breezy and romantic, with private balconies and polished stone shower stalls
The 103 rooms at the Grecotel Mykonos Blu Hotel are either Bungalows, Suites, or Villas, and are spread amongst an old and a newer wing -- those in the latter have more modern fixtures and it's worth asking for a room in this section. Rooms have an all-white design with cool concrete floors, picture windows, and white linens with the occasional blue cushion or painted ceiling. Decor is sparse to nonexistent, though some rooms do have vibrant island artwork and handmade light fixtures. Many beds are draped with voile curtains to amp the romance factor. All rooms have furnished balconies, and many have gorgeous sea views, though some overlook the parking lot. Bathrooms either have large tubs or stone showers with rainfall showerheads, and all come with luxury toiletries, hairdryers, bathrobes, and slippers. Some rooms have indoor and outdoor spa tubs, private pools, and temperature-controlled wine coolers. Suites are located closer to the beach, a selling point for some. Some rooms are a bit dark and cave-like, however. Evening turndown service is provided, while other amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and DVD players, in-room safes, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and toiletries. Connecting rooms are available upon request.
Features
Private beach, duplex infinity pool, full-service spa, and lovely rooftop bar
The Grecotel Mykonos Blu Hotel lacks child-friendly facilities, but it has several features for couples. Arguably the crowning feature is its private section of the popular Psarou Beach, which is lined with sunbeds and straw palapas. The bay makes this a calm spot for swimming and snorkeling, and guests can order food and cocktails from their chairs. The two-level infinity pool at the center of the hotel is surrounded by decks and smaller terraces, all with stunning, unobstructed views of the Aegean. The Elixir Fitness Gallery Spa offers a sauna and full treatment menu, including aromatherapy, thalassotherapy, massage, and wraps. Guests are advised to book treatments and packages before check-in. The gym is small but has cardio and weight-training equipment. The hotel has meeting space and wedding services available as well. Wi-Fi is free throughout.Dining-wise, both the main restaurant Aegean Poets and Brasserie L’Archipel serve Mediterranean specialties with a seafood emphasis and have lovely views of the water. A daily breakfast buffet is included in the rates. In-room dining is also available, as are barbecues prepared in guest villas or on the beach, and seaside romantic dinners for two. There's a poolside bar and in the evening guests can visit the rooftop bar at the Delos Lounge for after-dinner drinks and stargazing. The Lobby Lounge is another elegant choice for cocktails.
