Scene
Quiet hotel with stunning sea views and away-from-it-all atmosphere
Panoramic sea views create a beautiful backdrop for this peaceful hotel. Standing alone on a rocky hillside, these views can be had from almost everywhere on the property, including many of the 37 rooms. With whitewashed walls and blue painted shutters, the exteriors reflect the distinctive Cycladic style that the island is know for, while inside, decor is mostly traditional with modern touches. Wheels from old carts hang on the wall by the entrance, and large traditional vases are dotted around the property, while the outdoor pool is lined with chic sun loungers and day beds. The lobby has a real homey feel, with cozy cream couches, traditional Greek pillars, and striking gold art work on the walls. Overall, this place has a quiet atmosphere and laid-back vibe, making it popular with couples looking for a tranquil, sunny break.
Location
Right next to the beach, a 10- to 15-minute walk to Mykonos Town
The Grand Beach Hotel is perched on a hillside, overlooking the deep blue Aegean Sea. Although there's not much activity in the immediate area, it's just a one-minute walk from the golden sands of Megali Ammos Beach. The hotel's distance from Mykonos Town is ideal, as it's close enough to walk to the restaurants and bars, but far enough away to avoid the noise. Mykonos Town has many attractions, including the Windmills of Mykonos -- which can be seen from the hotel -- Paraportiani Church, and Little Venice. The 10- to 15-minute walk might be a little too long for some though, and it's worth noting that the steep hill and path leading to town is narrow. Travelers looking to explore other beaches on the island should head to the popular Paradise Beach, which is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Mykonos Airport is an eight-minute drive, and the Old Port of Mykonos is a six-minute drive.
Rooms
Spacious, bright rooms with private balconies and sea views
Like the rest of the hotel, the 37 rooms and suites blend traditional Greek decor with modern elements. The walls, furniture, and bedding are all classically white, while nautical paintings, printed pillows, and modern headboards add a splash of color. Basic amenities are included, such as air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, fridges, safes, free Wi-Fi, irons, ironing boards, and free slippers. Some elements can feel a little dated, though, such as old-fashioned curtains and tube hair dryers. Marble-tiled bathrooms are clean and spacious, featuring all the essential amenities, such as large white sinks, big mirrors, toilets, showers or shower/tub combos, and free toiletries. However, the sprayer in the bath tub is hand-held and not attached at standing height, which may be an issue for some. Certain bathrooms are also more modern than others, like the one in the Honeymoon Suite that we visited. A private balcony is attached to all rooms and features a small seating area that's ready-made for taking in the sea views, with some rooms adding a spa bath and private pool.
Features
Saltwater pool and hot tub, restaurant and bar, plus free Wi-Fi
The hotel's gorgeous sea views are the real highlight of this property, though there are plenty of great facilities too. A large saltwater pool, lined with straw umbrellas, padded day beds, and reclining sun loungers for tanning. There is also an adjoining hot tub and shallow children's pool, plus a poolside bar serving tasty cocktails and snacks throughout the day. The restaurant serves a variety of Greek and Western dishes, and has both indoor and outdoor seating areas. It also serves a daily breakfast buffet with hot and cold options, though this is not included in the room rate. There is a fitness center, but it's tiny, with only three pieces of equipment and no free weights. Other services include a 24-hour front desk, room service, computer station, dry cleaning, laundry, vehicle rentals, free parking, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also offers an airport and area shuttle service, but there is an additional fee for this.
