Simple and somewhat dated decor
Wi-Fi is limited and upgrades incur a fee
NH Munchen Ost Conference Center is a contemporary, upper-middle-range hotel that caters to business travelers. With tired decor and an isolated location far from the city center -- but in a business park close to Munich's fairgrounds and conference centers -- it’s not ideal for tourists. Its 222 guest rooms are basic and dated, equipped with standard amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning. Guests complain about the limited Wi-Fi, especially business travelers who are prompted to pay for an upgrade. The hotel has an on-site restaurant and a bar, as well as a fitness room and several meeting rooms. Travelers might also want to check out the NH Munchen Messe, which has similar amenities, a more up-to-date style, and is closer to the city center.
Scene
Contemporary business hotel with a stark atmosphere
NH Munchen Ost Conference is a full-service chain hotel with contemporary style that caters to business travelers. Twelve years ago, NH took over the property, but it hasn’t updated many of the spaces since then. Although the decor is modern in style, it appears tired, with little color, zip, or decorative flourish in the public spaces. But the lobby is bright and spacious, thanks to sleek white tile floors and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the airy space with light. Some gray chairs provide seating, but overall the atmosphere is stark. The contemporary decor continues throughout the restaurant space and lobby bar, where it’s a bit more warm and welcoming, with mauve carpets, wooden tables, and more enormous windows, while the lobby bar has nice wooden floors and a small shot of color in blue fluorescent lighting accents that contrast a red statement wall. Most of the clientele here are business travelers looking to stay in the area, as the hotel’s location is inconvenient to tourists.
Location
Far from the city center, but within walking distance of public transportation
NH Munchen Ost Conference Center is located in a business park in eastern Munich, outside of the city center and major tourist areas; it takes 30 minutes by public transportation or 15 to 20 minutes by car to reach the center. The Trabrenbahn Munchen-Daglfing (a racehorse track) is a seven-minute drive away and is about the only point of interest nearby. The immediate area is filled with businesses and conference centers, and Messe Munchen, Munich's Trade Fair Center, is a six-minute drive away (the hotel offers a free shuttle). There's a bus stop two minutes away from the property, while an S-Bahn station is an 11-minute walk away. It’s a 30-minute drive to Munich International Airport.
Rooms
Simple rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and limited Wi-Fi
Rooms at NH Munchen Ost Conference Center have a simple, forgettable look, with tan carpets, streamlined wooden furniture, black leather chairs, and worn decorative elements. Even color is notably absent in the all-white bedding. There’s little in the way of adornment, like art pieces or objects to personalize the spaces. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, desks, minibars, and free (but limited) basic Wi-Fi. Superior Rooms have coffee- and tea-making facilities, while Suites have separate living rooms as well as extras like Nespresso machines. Bathrooms are also plain with white tile and granite sinks, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and NH-brand toiletries.
Features
Restaurant and lobby bar, 24-hour fitness room, meeting rooms, and bike rentals
The hotel offers a decent set of amenities aimed at the business travelers who stay here. The on-site restaurant serves international and local cuisine for lunch and dinner, while the bar offers drinks and light bites throughout the day. There’s also a daily buffet breakfast that's available for an additional fee. Though it’s basic, the breakfast is useful as there are no cafes or restaurants in the immediate area. Room service is available 24/7, but it's limited during the late and early morning hours. Leisure facilities include a fitness room with modern cardio and weight equipment, as well as a sauna and showers. There are 10 fully equipped meeting rooms, plus a large business lounge with two public desktops and a printer. Wi-Fi is free, but only up to a certain amount of data -- extra incurs a fee. Other amenities include bike rentals and garage parking, which incur extra charges. A nice weekend perk is free late checkout on Sundays.
