Opened in 2012, the four-pearl, 201-room Eurostars Book
Hotel offers clean, bright, and relatively spacious rooms in a convenient
location near Munich Central Station and numerous
restaurants. The open lobby and modern design create a classy yet casual and
comfortable environment. But families might find the adult-oriented shops and
clubs in the surrounding area unappealing, and some guests don’t like the lack
of a door separating the guest room bathrooms from the halls. While competitively
priced, choice abounds near the central station area. Marc Munchen, for
example, which also opened in 2012, offers comparable rates, quality and amenities.
Scene
Busy yet comfortable and casual hotel with large open lobby
The literary theme of this hotel is apparent upon
arrival, where a two-story image of an open book appears behind the front desk, which is backlit by soft lavender light. The open, spacious lobby has shelves of
books that are part of a comfy sitting area comprising modern leather sofas
and chairs around pedestal tables. The lobby is bright, with white tile and large windows accented
by black columns. A white lobby bar sits adjacent and a modern chandelier hangs above. Titles of famous literary works are stenciled on a black wall in the open, casual Apicius restaurant (named
after a famous Roman gastronomical writer), and artwork in the dining area also has a literary theme. This is a busy
yet posh, casual and generally quiet hotel full of world travelers wanting easy access to the nearby train station.
Location
In a diverse neighborhood, a brief walk to Munich Central Station
The hotel’s convenient location -- a five-minute walk from Munich Central Station -- means numerous shops, restaurants, bars and other hotels are within a brief walk. However, adult-oriented nightclubs and shops are part of that mix and while generally safe, some guests may not find it a suitable neighborhood for their families. The epicenter of Oktoberfest activities (Theresienwiese) is a five-minute walk, and the Hofbraühaus beer garden is 18 minutes away by local train. Marienplatz is a 15-minute walk from the hotel, while the large underground shopping center
at Karlsplatz (Stachus) is a nine-minute walk. Train service to Munich
International Airport takes about 50 minutes (the airport otherwise takes 40 minutes to reach by taxi), and Nymphenburg
Palace is half an hour by train or 20 minutes driving.
Rooms
Clean and bright rooms with adequate space, but lacking bathroom doors
Rooms are sparsely decorated but clean, bright, and while they're spacious
enough by European standards, they are a bit narrow. All rooms feature the same basic decor, with light-cream walls and ceilings, light-wood floors, and brown bedspreads and matching upholstered headboards. A passage from a famous literary work is printed on the ceiling above the bed in every room. Views are mostly of surrounding high-rise office buildings. Double Deluxe Rooms have king beds, glass tables with brown leather chairs,
wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, and corner armoires with small closets, safes, and
minibars. Robes, magnifying mirrors, and coffeemakers come standard in all rooms. Smoking and non-smoking rooms are available. Bathrooms are small, with simple white vanities, black-tile floors, and white tile framing walk-in shower stalls. Some guest finds the lack of a door separating the bathroom from the hall unappealing, especially given the shower stall’s clear glass doors. The toilet is separated by a sliding door, but a dark, frosted-glass half-wall separates the bed and bath areas and lacks privacy. Double Superior Rooms have a bit more space, enough to add corner couches and coffee tables. Junior Suites are around twice the size of the Double Superiors, and have separate living rooms, balconies with tables and chairs, and
larger bathrooms with double vanities and separate walk-in showers and tubs.
