This contemporary hotel was first opened in 2012 and it's perhaps unsurprising that the decor is classically modern and understated, with just a splash of color here and there in the artwork, rugs, and other accessories. The hotel is centered around two courtyards and, with its location in the northern end of the Medina, is a peaceful escape from the bustling city square and souks. Guests are welcomed with warm tea and biscuits, setting a relaxed tone. There are two open-air courtyards -- one with a plunge pool -- with lots of nooks for reading or relaxing. A secluded rooftop terrace offers shaded and sunny spots with padded loungers and sofas to take in the views of the surrounding Medina, and there's a fire pit to add warmth in the evenings. Given the romantic vibe, it's no surprise that couples are the main guests, but as the hotel also offers some child-friendly services, it's not uncommon for families to pass through as well. 

Its location at the northern end of the Medina means that the hotel is slightly farther away from some of the city’s main attractions. It’s around a 17-minute walk to the main square, Jemaa el-Fna, but only seven minutes by car or cab. A little closer at hand is the Ben Youssef Mosque, which will take around five minutes to reach on foot, and the Marrakech Museum and Ben Youssef Madrasa, both of which are around a six- to seven-minute walk. There are all manner of cafes, restaurants, galleries, and other sights throughout the Medina, as well as the city's famous souks, which are closer to the square. Arset el Blik, the main bus terminal, can be reached by car in 11 minutes, and Menara Airport is a 20-minute cab ride from the hotel. Transfers can be arranged by contacting the hotel (for a fee). 

The hotel has 15 similarly-styled rooms, ranging in size from Comfort Rooms to Deluxe Suites, with natural tones throughout and just a splash of color in the artwork, rugs, and throw pillows. Floors are done in earth-color tiles with patterned rugs for comfort. Although rooms do have distinctive Moroccan touches in the carved doors, archways, and locally-crafted furnishings, they are modern and minimalist overall.  

There are flat-screen TVs in all rooms -- not that common for riads in the Medina -- and all have satellite channels and DVD players. Other standard features include air-conditioning, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. Each room has a seating area, while the Suites have a second bedroom or lounge, and private terraces overlooking the patio. Bedrooms are arranged around the courtyards, which keeps them quiet despite the Medina location. 

Bathrooms continue the muted contemporary style, with modern fittings, single or double vessel sinks, and separate showers. Some larger rooms have two bathrooms, stand-alone tubs, and bidets, but there are no doors on many and simple curtains are in place for privacy, which may not be to everyone's taste. Hairdryers and free toiletries are provided. 

While the hotel doesn't quite live up to its luxe aspirations, there are enough features here to make it a fine upscale pick. The courtyards are particularly lovely and are surrounded by padded seating areas -- one even has a tranquil pool. The rooftop terrace is another highlight and provides a secluded spot to take in the surrounding Medina views by day or night (we love the fire pit for an extra dash of romance). There's a second pool (heated) within the spa, along with a whirlpool, hamman, and relaxation and treatment rooms plus a range of services. Dining and drinking can be done in the restaurant, terraces, or bar, and the hotel offers local fare and international dishes. Bear in mind that reservations are required for lunches and evening meals. A Moroccan buffet breakfast is available, with omelets, breads, and yogurts, but it's not all included in the rates. Airport transfers can be arranged (for a fee), as can private off-site parking.  Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, although this can be slow in some areas. There is an elevator in the hotel and it's wheelchair accessible.
