Residence Dar Lamia

This quiet property is set back from a country road and designed something like a private village, with sand-colored stone buildings spread across several acres of manicured lawns and gardens dotted with palms and bright green lawns. In some ways, the Residence Dar Lamia evokes a traditional Arab-Andalusian style, with two-story riads connected by paths that lead through domed archways, and open-air courtyards. However, inside the vibe is decidedly modern, with slick red floors, black ceilings, and graphic black designs on the walls of the restaurant. The spa also feels less traditional than many others in Marrakech, with its recessed lighting, smooth wood-laminate floors, and trendy purple velvet couch. The pool area is the most appealing part of the property, gracefully curved and with ample deck space lined with minimalist black sun loungers. This is a good place for couples planning to relax in the sun, as the secluded setting feels romantic and there's not much to do, though families with kids may want more activities and closer proximity to tourist sights. 

The hotel is situated on the fringes of Marrakech in rural surroundings. Guests will be somewhat far outside of the city center and the Medina, which are between about five and 20 minutes away depending on traffic. Unlike at some other hotels outside of the Medina, Residence Dar Lamia does not offer free shuttle service, but there is free parking. Palmeraie Golf Palace is a 15-minute drive northeast, while other attractions like the Jemaa el Fna, Souk Kafé, Palais de la Bahia, and Marrakech Museum are a few to 10 minutes away, without traffic. It's a 10-minute drive to Marrakech Menara Airport without traffic. 

The hotel rooms are decorated in palettes that vary from black and gold to neutral-grey and turquoise to dramatic red. Decor is decidedly modern -- some rooms have trendy patterned wallpaper, flashy designer furnishings, and mood lights -- but there are some curved doorways for touches of authentic Moroccan character, plus relaxing patios with garden views. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and some also have safes, Keurig coffeemakers, and minibars. Two-bedroom Apartments with kitchens are available. The two-story private Villas encircle an interior courtyard, and have living and dining rooms, full kitchens, two to four bedrooms, fireplaces, patios, and either fountains or plunge pools. Bathrooms have either tiled, walk-in rainfall showers or shower/tub combos, with the Villas having multiple bathrooms, some opening to rooftop terraces.Families will likely appreciate that baby cots and high chairs are available upon request. 

The Dar Lamia's spa has a traditional hammam and treatment rooms with the usual massages and facial pampering. An attached fitness center is just a tiny room with a handful of equipment, but it's still a bonus since so few hotels in the area even have one. The central pool area has a large outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees, deck chairs, and few umbrellas. The hotel's restaurant and bar serves decent French-Moroccan cuisine, though guests should note that it doesn't stay open late into the evening for night owls. Breakfast is available in-room, in the restaurant, or poolside and is included in some rates. Wi-Fi is free, though service can be inconsistent. Parking is free, as well.
