The 12-room Hotel Kasbah Dar
Ilham is an upscale, beautifully crafted boutique with traditional
Moroccan interiors set outside of Marrakech proper and a 20-minute ride to the medina on the free hotel shuttle. While the location is obviously far from ideal for exploring the popular tourist sights, it does offer a particularly peaceful and relaxing
environment, especially with the gorgeous outdoor pool surrounded by lounge chairs. The rooms are also especially lavish with intricate decor including large four-poster beds. Wi-Fi is free throughout. It may also be worth considering the comparable Les Deux Tours.
Scene
Gorgeous boutique with dazzling, traditional Moroccan decor
Although the approach
is via a relatively unattractive road, the turn-off into the four-pearl Hotel Kasbah Dar
Ilham immediately changes into a lovely gravel path flanked by walls covered in
lush green vegetation bursting with colorful flowers. The simple entrance of
this 12-room boutique leads to a classic riad courtyard complete with the traditional citrus trees,
centerpiece fountain, and gently curving arches. Stepping into the lobby guests
are treated to wonderfully dazzling interiors awash with gorgeous crimson
decor, typically plush Moroccan furnishings, and a beautifully patterned carved
wood ceiling. Walkways adorned with linen drapery and lined with intricate
wrought-iron balconies combined with the kasbah-style architecture creates a
genuinely refined Old Marrakech ambience, while pretty, well-tended gardens and
large central pool provide a particularly peaceful and pleasant place to
unwind. The atmosphere is refined and a touch romantic throughout, even though this property also draws its fair share of families.
Location
Remote location surrounded by farmland, a 20-minute drive east of the medina
The Hotel Kasbah Dar Ilham is
surrounded by olive groves and farmland about a 20-minute drive
east of Marrakech's famous medina (old city). While there is almost
nothing within walking distance, there is a large farmers market a short walk
away each Saturday. The property is also well located for trips to the
surrounding mountains and balloon rides that can be arranged by the hotel. The Marrakech Menara International Airport
is just over a 30-minute drive away along the nearby N8 highway.
Rooms
Lavishly and individually styled rooms with large four-poster beds
The hotel has just 12 rooms, almost all of which are suites located
on the first floor of the property with views over the countryside and the pool
courtyard. All double rooms feature a
king-size, four-poster bed adorned with muslin drapery, while each room is
individually but lavishly styled with a rich palette of crimson and earthy
tones and traditionally ornate Moroccan furnishings. Standard amenities include
air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels. Suites with sofa beds that can fit up to four adults are available. Bathrooms provide robes and hairdryers; some have separate showers and tubs, while others have only showers or only tubs with handheld showerheads. Baby cots are available upon request. Large groups organizing an event can book the entire property.
Features
Large swimming pool and hot tub plus restaurant and on-site spa
Breakfast is
included in the rate and comprises mostly typical Moroccan dishes as well as
some child-friendly items, served in the breakfast tent overlooking the pool.
The Dar Ilham Restaurant also serves a menu of regional specialties for lunch
and dinner which, while the food is decent -- and the occasional belly dancing show provides entertainment --
it's the only dining option in the area. The large (72-foot) outdoor pool is
lined with plenty of loungers and heated during the cooler months; there's also a hot tub that can fit up to six guests. Massage treatments are available in
the on-site spa. Wi-Fi is free throughout. Free shuttle service is available to the medina.
