Bottom Line

The 57-room Adama Resort is
an upscale complex set in large, attractive gardens in the countryside outside the
city of Marrakech. This villa-only resort draws heavily on various Moorish and Moroccan
architectural traditions while providing all the facilities you'd expect from a
self-contained vacation resort including pools, spa, and a restaurant. Kitchen-equipped villas are
spacious and stylish, though limited dining and no local supermarket can
be an issue. All in all, for families with kids prioritizing relaxing by the
pool over exploring old Marrakech, this is an attractive option, though sightseers might want to look elsewhere. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Scene

Peaceful villa-only resort complex set in scented olive tree gardens

Named after an ancient word for Earth, the Adama Resort was designed by famous
Moroccan architect Elie Mouyal and opened in 2010. Set in six acres of parkland
dotted with olive trees and manicured lawns lined with scented flora, the
resort comprises 57 luxury villas centered around two large mirror-like
pools. The clay-brick architecture blends the look of a medieval Moorish
fortress with elements of the traditional Moroccan riad and swathes of patterned Mediterranean-style terra-cotta
tiling. The result is an impressive, largely self-contained and particularly
peaceful villa-only complex popular mostly with families with kids who want
resort-style lodgings away from the hustle and bustle of central Marrakech.

Location

Countryside location 20 minutes' drive from Marrakech's Medina district

The hotel is located
in a relatively remote area surrounded by countryside, other holiday complexes,
and golf courses -- though very little in the way of tourist attractions. Besides
the next door Argan Golf Resort, there is nothing within walking distance. Marrakech's 11th-century medina -- the main draw for most of the region's tourists -- is around a
20-minute drive away, though the hotel does provide five free shuttle services into
town daily. The hotel's location does also mean easy access to Menara International Airport -- about
a 10-minute drive from door to door.

Rooms

Villas with Moroccan architecture and self-catering facilities

The resort's 57
villas comprise four different types
of accommodation, each referencing an example of Moroccan architecture: The
Riads have patios, the Fnenes look like artist ateliers, the Menzehs are inspired
by Moroccan villas, and the multi-floored Borjs are designed after the famous towers of
Berber. Despite their historical architectural inspiration, interiors are
largely fresh and modern with contemporary low-profile furnishings, lots of jewel-toned accents, and only the
occasional traditional touch (such as lovely brick ceilings in some units). Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs,
fully equipped kitchens, and air-conditioning, while bathrooms have large tubs
and hairdryers. All villas also include a peaceful outdoor terrace or garden with
furnishing for alfresco dining. Wi-Fi is free throughout, though signal strength can vary.

Features

Decent though limited on-site dining with poolside terrace plus a spa

The hotel's Les Oliviers restaurant serves a decent breakfast each morning, as
well as a good menu of regional dishes for lunch and dinner on its poolside
terrace -- however with this being the only on-site restaurant and few options nearby, it can quickly feel limited (there's also no nearby supermarket for those
self-catering). The Adama Wellness Area is the hotel's spa which offers a
traditional hammam and a good range of massage treatments with argan-based
oils. There's an attractive Andalusian-style pool as well as a swimming pool,
though it's only heated in the winter and can otherwise be quite bracing. A
kids' club is also available (during school holiday times) as well as
babysitting services. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
