The 157-room
Quality Hotel Montreal East is a value property with a relaxed atmosphere, located a 15-minute walk of the Galeries d’Anjou Shopping Center and a 15-minute drive from downtown Montreal . Chain-style beige-and-gray toned rooms come with coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs, but some receive highway noise and we spotted rust in the bathrooms. Breakfast is included with
some packages and there is an on-site restaurant and bar. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and guests can use the Citalfort fitness center, which is within walking distance of the hotel, at no extra charge. Guests looking for a similar property closer to Montreal's city center should try the Travelodge Montreal Center for rooms at a similar price point right in the heart of downtown.
Scene
A budget chain hotel with a quiet vibe
The subdued tan-tiled lobby
has black leather couches and red patterned armchairs
for seating, complemented by red accents on the walls and columns -- the total effect is somewhat dated, but tray ceilings
add texture to the space. Free coffee, tea, and newspapers are provided for guests, who are mostly business travelers, though tourists pass through as well. Graffiti’s Italian Eatery has a few flat-screen TVs and a small bar. The space is characterized by its hodgepodge decor that includes murals of Italian buildings, unattractive patterned carpets, and a drop-tile ceiling has seen better days. Truthfully, for guests who want to stay closer to the main sights in Montreal, better options exist for not much more money.
Location
East end of Montreal, near a large shopping center and convenient to Highway 40
The Quality Hotel Montreal
East is off Highway 40 in the east end of Montreal, and is only convenient to Montreal's major sights for guests with cars or who are willing to use public transportation. The Galeries d’Anjou Shopping
Center is the area's major landmark, and is a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Saputo Stadium, the Montreal Insectarium, Olympic
Park and Stadium, as well as Montreal Botanical Garden are about a 10-minute drive from the hotel, while Jarry Park, the Montreal Biodome, and the Jean-Talon Market are about a 15-minute drive. Old Montreal can take up to 30 minutes to reach by car depending on traffic, as does downtown Montreal and the arts district. Guests can also reach downtown Montreal by combining the bus and metro, a trip that takes about 45 minutes one way. Montreal Pierre-Elliott Trudeau International Airport is about a
20-minute drive from the hotel, depending on traffic.
Rooms
Chain-style decor with coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges
Simple guest rooms have tan-patterned carpets that complement brown bedspreads, while light wood headboards almost blend in with tan wallpapered walls that are hung with soft-colored generic art. Each room has a bit of seating -- two wooden, padded chairs and a contemporary armchair -- that are set next to light wood veneer desks and dressers, though guest rooms here are almost purely functional and aren't ideal for hanging out in comfort. All rooms have 32-inch flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning, and though microwaves don't automatically come with every unit, they are available on request. Business Rooms have striped sofa beds and green armchairs and can accommodate additional guests, but visitors here should be aware that loud highway noise reaches several rooms throughout the property. Tan-tiled bathrooms are outdated, and have cream-colored countertops with shower/tub combos, some of which show rust. Quality Hotel brand toiletries are provided.
Features
On-site restaurant/bar plus free Wi-Fi, parking, and free access to nearby fitness center
Graffiti’s Italian Eatery is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and there's a bar for wine, cocktails, and beer, though it's not the most attractive venue we've seen for a meal, even by two-pearl standards. Some room packages include breakfast. A computer plus copying
and faxing services are available in the business center for a fee, and guests can use the Citalfort fitness center, about a seven-minute walk from the hotel, at no extra charge. There are also two simple conference rooms on site that can each accommodate up to 10 people. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and outdoor parking is included in the room rate. The hotel is
pet-friendly, but fees and weight restrictions apply, and pets can't be left alone in guest rooms.
