Overview

Pros
  • Convenient location in downtown’s Latin Quarter

  • Huge suites with sleek, contemporary decor and full kitchens

  • Big flat-screen TVs and iPod docks

  • Rooftop terrace with great views

  • Free Wi-Fi

  • Energy efficient practices

  • Historic Art Deco building

Cons
  • No on-site restaurant (but all suites have kitchens)

  • Double beds in most rooms

  • Some bathrooms feel old despite the new fixtures

  • Dark hallways, and some complaints about lack of security

Bottom Line

This all-suites hotel is located in the Latin Quarter, a lively area in Downtown Montreal, in a 1920 Art Deco building that once operated as a parking garage. The 50 huge rooms (starting at 800 square feet) come with full, modern kitchens and sleek, contemporary decor -- but the renovated warehouse feel isn't for everyone, and some guests have complained of lingering quirks. Don't expect a typical hotel experience, as there are no services whatsoever (no fitness center, no restaurant on-site, no business center), only a rooftop terrace with great downtown views, and three event spaces.

Location

In Downtown Montreal's lively Latin Quarter, close to the University of Quebec at Montreal, and to three subway lines

The Loft Hotel is located in the heart of vibrant Latin Quarter, on the eastern edge of Downtown Montreal. Many cafes, restaurants, bars and local shops are on the same block as the hotel, and three subway lines are within three blocks of the property.Montreal's Latin Quarter is a young, lively area named after Paris' Latin Quarter (although some claim it derives its name from an old requirement that all students at the university learn Latin), and is home to the University of Quebec at Montreal. Students can be seen strolling through the streets at all times of the day or night. The Latin Quarter features some of Montreal's liveliest and most casual nightlife. Because the majority of the residents are students, the bars in the area are often inexpensive and stay open 'til the wee hours of the morning. Rue Saint-Denis has lots of restaurants and bars, as well as shops and funky boutiques. Though the area doesn't offer as many museums or historic sights as adjacent Downtown, the National Library of Quebec is located here.- 24-minute drive to Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport
