Auberge Le Pomerol

The Auberge Le Pomerol is a converted apartment complex that’s more than 100 years old. It’s a lovely brick building with stylish, clear-glass entrance doors that lead to a small, curved wood front desk. A lower-level lobby a few steps down is cozy and intimate, with comfortable upholstered couches and chairs with throw pillows facing a wooden coffee table and a lovely stone fireplace. Magazines and books encourage guests to linger in this comfortable, living room-style space, which has a computer station with printer. A small dining area off the lobby serves afternoon and evening snacks, and a quaint French bistro in an adjoining basement area serves lunch and dinner. This boutique-style property feels much like a home in an older, established Montreal neighborhood.

The Auberge Le Pomerol borders the lively Gay Village, with its shops, nightclubs, and restaurants, in central Montreal. The Berri metro station, where all three of Montreal’s metro lines connect, is about a three-minute walk from the hotel. Place des Arts is a 12-minute walk, while the University of Quebec and the Latin Quarter and its many restaurants are a six-minute walk. Trudeau Airport is a 23-minute drive, or 36 minutes away by public transportation. City Centre is a 10-minute drive away, and Old Montreal is a seven-minute drive, or about a 20-minute walk. The surrounding area is an older neighborhood that’s a bit gritty but is generally considered safe. 

The 27 guest rooms overlook either the street (front) or parking lot (back). Rooms in the back are especially quiet. No two rooms are exactly alike, so it’s helpful to review photos of the rooms' size and layout before booking. All rooms are tidy and clean, and feature earth tone-painted walls and drapes, patterned comforters, and light-wood headboards and matching nightstands and dressers. Standard amenities include coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs with HDMI ports, and free Wi-Fi. Most rooms have hardwood floors and comfortable upholstered chairs. The larger Superior and Executive Rooms typically have work desk/office chairs, mini-fridges, safes, and small stereos with CD players. Economy Rooms have double or two single beds, and they can be cramped, with the bed abutting one wall. Standard Rooms are a bit larger, and include queen beds, or one double and one single bed. Superior Rooms have queen beds, and Executive Rooms have queen or king beds -- larger Executive Rooms have couches and separate sitting areas and large jetted tubs, some placed on platforms outside the bathrooms. Regardless of the room category, all bathrooms are clean and fresh but small, with white tile walls, shower/tub combos with curtains, and magnifying mirrors. Some of the rooms with jetted tubs have small, separate showers. 

A continental breakfast basket is delivered to guest rooms daily, and it’s included in the room rate. Free snacks are available from mid-afternoon on, and free newspapers are available in the lobby. An attached French bistro serves lunch and dinner during the week, and dinner on weekends. Two meeting rooms can accommodate approximately 16 people in the largest room. Concierge services are provided, and guests can purchase tickets at the hotel for city tours, river cruises, museums and other attractions. A computer station with printer is located in the lower lobby. Secure parking is behind the hotel for a fee. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
