Bottom Line

A modest budget hotel situated right across the street from Lovers Point, this property's biggest draw is its location. The Lovers Point Beach is just two minutes away, as are gorgeous coastal trails, while busy Lighthouse Avenue, lined with restaurants and shops, is a couple of blocks away. Rooms are simple and a bit dated -- the tiny bathrooms could use refurbishment -- but they're clean and offer a solid set of amenities, including flat-screen TVs, microwaves, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges. The inn lacks any facilities, but does offer a handful of freebies like breakfast, Wi-Fi, and on-site parking. Travelers seeking more features who don't mind spending a bit more might want to check out the mid-range Lighthouse Lodge & Cottages, which has a pool and hot tub.

Scene

Budget oceanfront inn with simple, dated interiors

As a casual ocean-facing hotel, Lovers Point Inn is a good choice for tourists on a budget -- though expectations should be curtailed so as not to be disappointed. Though the inn certainly lacks style and feels tired, it's pleasant enough, and a couple of perks add value to a stay here. The beige building features exterior balconies, and a small patio in front of the entrance offers some wrought-iron seating around a gaudy stone fountain festooned with flowers and a mermaid centerpiece. There's not much in terms of common spaces here beyond the lobby. The space is small and functional, offering a handful of thoughtful freebies like brochures and a coffee machine; a breakfast alcove adjoins. Many travelers only spend one night here, and the biggest highlight is definitely the location.

Location

Across the street from Lovers Point Beach, a couple of blocks from restaurant- and shop-lined Lighthouse Avenue

The property is situated right across the street from Lovers Point Beach and Lovers Point Park in Pacific Grove, a coastal city in California's Monterey County. There are a lot of beautiful coastal trails for walking or biking, plus many scenic lookout points with gorgeous vistas. There are a couple of dining options by the beach, plus many more restaurants, cafes, and shops lining nearby Lighthouse Avenue, a seven-minute walk away. Local attractions include the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History (seven-minute walk), the Monterey Bay Aquarium (six-minute drive or a lovely 22-minute coastal walk), the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary (five-minute drive or 22-minute walk), and Point Pinos Lighthouse (five-minute drive or 25-minute walk). Cannery Row, of literary fame thanks to John Steinbeck's novel of the same name, is about a five-minute drive away. San Jose International Airport is an hour- and a-half away. San Francisco Airport can be reached in a bit under two hours.

Rooms

Simple rooms have shared or private balconies, but bathrooms could use an update

Rooms are simply yet pleasantly styled, if a bit dated. Carpeted floors are paired with beige walls adorned with fish art, while beige or russet-colored bed runners and accent pillows top white bedding. All rooms have tables and chairs, as well as white dressers or combined sink vanities and dressers. Large white shuttered windows let in plenty of natural light. Most rooms have shared balconies with tables and chairs; some have private ones.Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, irons/ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi -- but there's no AC (fans are supplied). Bathrooms are small and could also use an update, but they're clean and functional. They're equipped with shower/tub combos; sink vanities are either inside the bathroom or right outside in the bedroom area. Toiletries, hairdryers, and robes are supplied.

Features

A couple of freebies like breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking

This modest budget property doesn't have much by way of facilities or features, but it does offer a handful of freebies that add value to a stay here. The free continental breakfast is mediocre and includes basic items like pastries, fruit, coffee/tea, and other small bites. Free parking is available on the on-site lot or underground garage. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
