Bottom Line

The Hampton Inn Moab offers modern facilities and a prime location in the heart of downtown Moab, just a short drive from Arches and Canyonlands national parks. The three-pearl property offers a nice set of features, including free hot breakfast buffet, nice fitness center, pool/whirlpool, guest laundry facilities, and free parking and Wi-Fi. Its 79 guest rooms are spacious and they have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, but decor is drab and they lack microwaves. Suites add them, however and they also come with sleeper sofas and wet bars. Rates are competitive but like other area hotels they can spike quite high in peak season, when rooms can be hard to find. The nearby Comfort Suites is an attractive alternative with comparable amenities for about the same price, but the all-suites property has more contemporary units.

Scene

A modern tourist hotel with a cheerful lobby and relaxed vibe

This comfortable hotel has a bright and cheerful lobby and a cozy atmosphere, with a double-sided gas fireplace as a focal point. It separates the space from the pleasant breakfast area, which has comfy black leather armchairs and a long communal table. Floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate the black-and-white photos of area scenery, and help add a sense of place to the otherwise cookie-cutter chain hotel decor. The Hampton Inn Moab is a quiet tourist property that hosts people from all over the world, including many tour groups on their way to the nearby national parks.

Location

On downtown Moab’s main drag, a short drive to Arches National Park

The Hampton Inn has an excellent location on downtown Moab’s main drag, lined with restaurants, shops, outdoor outfitters, and other hotels for several blocks. The busy road can be a bit noisy during the day, but it typically settles down at night. Several restaurants are within a four-minute walk or less, including full-service and fast-food establishments. It’s a 10-minute drive to Arches National Park Visitors Center, and a 33-minute drive to Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. Driving to Zion National Park takes about five hours, while Salt Lake City and its airport take a little less than four hours by car.

Rooms

Spacious and tidy, with mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi, but decor is drab

Guest rooms at Hampton Inn Moab are spacious, but the dark-brown carpet, mismatched patterns, and dark-wood furniture gives them a drab look. Still, units are relatively pleasant, comfortable, and tidy. Standard Double Queens have enough room to include upholstered armchairs and desks with office chairs, and all units have mini-fridges, 37-inch flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi, though they lack microwaves and safes. Studio Suites (Kings and Double Queens) add sleeper sofas, wet bars, and microwaves to their amenities. Bathrooms are equally roomy, with tan granite vanities and either shower/tub combos or shower inserts with sliding glass doors, plus hairdryers and Neutrogena toiletries. The Suites we saw had their vanities placed just outside the bathroom. Although they're  generally quiet, rooms in the back of the property tend to hear less noise from the road, which can be quite busy during the day. Those units also have the best views of the lovely rock formations near the hotel.

Features

Free hot breakfast, heated pool and whirlpool, plus well-equipped fitness center

Tourists with an ambitious sightseeing schedule can take advantage of the Hampton Inn’s free Grab-and-Go breakfast bags in lieu of the free breakfast buffet, which includes eggs, make-your-own waffles, bacon, sausage, and other hot dishes that vary slightly each day. There's also a 24-hour convenience store on-site that has a good choice of sundries, soft drinks, and snacks, including frozen entrees for in-room dining. Bottled water also is available for purchase in the lobby. For wellness, there's a seasonal heated outdoor pool that's a decent size and a year-round whirlpool, and you can catch views of the surrounding mountains from both. The fitness center is nicely equipped with Precor cardio equipment, including three treadmills, two ellipticals and stationary bicycles, and free weights. Other amenities include a business center in a quiet, dedicated space with two computers and a printer, meeting space for up to 30 people, a guest laundry room with multiple washer/dryers, valet dry cleaning and laundry, and a safety deposit box at the front desk. Wi-Fi and parking are free, but some past guests have reported that parking for RVs can be a bit tight in the hotel's surface lot.
