Elevator is tiny
A chic, contemporary counterpoint to Milan's Old World hotels, the four-pearl Palazzo Segreti is a short walk to many of the city's main attractions. Its 18 rooms, which include apartments with kitchens and terraces, are modern and minimalist, with an industrial edge. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, and some have minibars. Breakfast is included in the rates, and there's a small, snazzy wine bar for evening drinks and snacks, but design and the central location are the draw here. Travelers could also consider the equally modern Hotel Straf, which has a restaurant and gym, and minibars in all the rooms.
Scene
Industrial-style hotel with sexy lighting, chic furniture
In a city where hotels are overstuffed with traditional decor, Palazzo Segreti brings a blast of fresh air. The industrial design, with low-intimate lighting and chic, funky furniture, is sexy and smart. Floors are wooden and ceilings are high with curved entry ways. Walls are mostly gray, painted to look like stone, and are unadorned except for the massive, colorful abstract art piece in the wine bar and breakfast area. Hallways are narrow, and two people will struggle to fit into the hotel’s iron-cage elevator. The hotel draws mostly tourists, including fashion-forward couples on romantic breaks.
Location
In a central location near several attractions, cafes, restaurants, and public transportation
Palazzo Segreti has a wonderful, central location that's a boon for tourists as most major attractions are within walking distance. It's about a 10-minute walk to Milan Cathedral, and 11 minutes to Sforzesco Castle. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and shops. The closest bus and tram stop is about a three-minute walk away, and the hotel sits between two metro stops that are about a five-minute walk from the property. Milano Malpensa Airport is a 45-minute drive away. Note on arrival that the traditional, stone-arch entrance of this hotel could be easy to miss.
Rooms
Mix of modern rooms with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi; apartments with kitchens and terraces
Palazzo Segreti's 18 rooms are individually decorated -- they're a lovely blend of modern industrial and homey, with eye-catching furnishings. All have wooden floors and comfy beds with soft white bedding. Some have steel-frame canopies with flowing white curtains. A few feature gray walls painted in a concrete effect, while others have single-color accent walls. Curtains are sheer and armchairs are funky-shaped or colorful. It’s an upscale minimalist design, with low-lighting for an intimate, sexy vibe. All rooms include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Some have minibars. The apartments have living room areas, kitchens, and outdoor furnished terraces. Be aware that daily housekeeping in the apartments comes with a fee. Bathrooms are sleek, and have bidets. Some rooms have showers, and some Suites have separate tubs in the bedrooms. Hairdryers and Sapo toiletries are provided.
Features
Breakfast buffet included in rates, a wine bar, free Wi-Fi, and valet parking
Breakfast is a highlight of Palazzo Segreti. It's included in the rates and offers organic and local products, many of which are homemade. Pastries, cheeses, and cold meats are part of the spread. In the evenings, guests can gather in the chic wine bar, and snack on platters of cheese and cold cuts. Room service is available as well. However, as a small property, it lacks a full restaurant, or a gym or business center. Ambience is the real draw here. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, and valet parking requires reservations.
