Despite its location in an unfashionable neighborhood about 20 minutes from the city center, the starkly modern Milan Suite Hotel manages to earn positive reviews for its large, comfortably equipped rooms and bathrooms. Public amenities are few, but the hotel's proximity to the airport and nearby conference and exhibition facilities have made Milan Suite Hotel a reasonable choice for business travelers.
Scene
Industrial and modern, but a bit cold
A 40-suite hotel tucked inside an industrial-looking building, Milan Suite Hotel has a colorful interior set-up that helps add warmth and visual interest to an otherwise basic business hotel 20 minutes from Milan's more bustling neighborhoods. The tall interior atrium that acts as the focal point of the hotel can often be cold in both appearance and temperature, but the brightly decorated open lobby (with its modern sofas and built-in fireplace) and hallways do liven up the place. The breakfast area was made to look more youthful with its mix-and-match decor of blond wood tables, vintage cupboards and Buddha busts.
Location
Uninspiring neighborhood north of Milan's center
The hotel is located a few miles northwest of the city center in a residential neighborhood filled with large apartment complexes and similar business-minded hotels. There are a few local shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, but otherwise, there's not much to see or do. The area provides convenient access to several main highways that intersect north of Milan, including the motorway leading to Malpensa Airport, about 25 minutes away. A city bus stops very close to the hotel, and the train and tram are within a 10-minute walk.
Rooms
Contemporary, comfortable design
Suites are very spacious and conveniently equipped with large flat-screen TVs and built-in Euro-style storage cabinets in the kitchenette area. Unlike the more colorful palette of the hotel's public spaces, there rooms at Milan Suite Hotel are generally subdued with neutral-colored bedding and carpet plus natural wood book shelves, headboards, and closet fixtures. Some suites are occasionally decorated with antique-looking accessories, patterned upholstery and large-scale black-and-white art to add more pizzaz. Spacious bathrooms come with modern wall-hung toilets and bidets, glass-enclosed showers, heated towel racks and separate soaking tubs.
Features
Underground parking and a playroom
On-site amenities are few but are convenient to no-fuss business travelers. There is an underground garage that can be accessed by elevators that go to all floors of the building. In addition to the small fitness area, there's also what the hotel calls a "Playable Room," equipped with an X-Box 360 and a large LCD-3D TV. And finally, the basic continental breakfast buffet is offered at a cost.
