Bottom Line

The Hilton Milan is an upper-middle-range property with a great location for public transportation access, but so-so rooms unless you upgrade to a suite. All rooms are certainly spacious and modern, but decor is bland and bathrooms are cramped. Breakfast is included with the price of the room and there's a small restaurant, Pacific Milano, for lunch and dinner. Business travelers appreciate the 13 meeting rooms, but loathe paying for Wi-Fi in the rooms (it's free in the lobby). There's an outdoor terrace only accessible to those with an executive level room, but metal fences block the view, so it hardly seems worth it. Compare rates at nearby Crowne Plaza Milan City for newer rooms and a wellness center.

Oyster Hotel Review

Hilton Milan

Scene

Nine-story chain hotel is big on couples and business travelers

The scene at the Hilton Milan is quiet and mostly consists of business travelers or international tourists who leave the hotel for the day to explore the city. A spacious lobby includes a purple wall behind the long reception desk and modern-looking pendant lights. There's a small space with narrow chairs and tables on a striped rug where guests can gather. Abstract paintings hang on the walls. Guests who booked executive rooms have access to an outdoor terrace with wooden tables and chairs. Views of the city are blocked by a metal fence covered with green plants, but the fresh air is nice.

Location

Overlooking busy Via Luigi Galvani

It's about a 30-minute walk to get to the center of Milan from the Hilton Milan, though a nearby subway will get you there much faster. The Central Station is a short walk away and also where the bus from the airport drops off passengers. The airports of Linate, Malpensa, and Bergamo Orio al Serio are connected by shuttle service (about 40 minutes) to the Central Station. The hotel is built above a car rental company, which is convenient. There's an extra charge for daily parking (a common occurrence in Milan). The surrounding neighborhood is bustling with heavy traffic and a good variety of restaurants and shops.

Rooms

Bland -- but clean and spacious -- guest rooms

There are 319 guest rooms and suites at the Hilton Milan, and though each is spacious and clean, they're also a bit dated and generic. Mattresses get high marks as do the soft bedding and sheets. Decor includes white walls, gray drapes, and light wooden furniture. A faded blue polka dot armchair is placed in front of a circular table. Framed floral prints hang above the beds. Expect shower/tub combinations and single sinks in the bathrooms. For some reason (probably space issues) the hair dryer is attached to a desk in the bedroom. Peter Thomas Roth amenities, flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and minibars are standard. Noise isn't an issue. Upgrade to a suite for more interesting decor and square footage. Some suites have balconies.

Free breakfast is a nice perk, but you'll have to pay extra for in-room Wi-Fi.

It's surprising that the Hilton Milan doesn't have a wellness center with a steam room or sauna, as many chain hotels in this part of Milan do. There is a decently sized fitness center with Precor cardio equipment and strength-training machines, however, along with space to stretch. A business center has semi-private desks with leather chairs and desktop computers. There are 13 spacious meeting rooms with seating for up to 200.

A nice breakfast buffet is included with the price of the room and Pacific Milano restaurant serves a la carte lunch and dinner. The Cosmopolitan lobby bar offers full-service drinks. Guests with executive level rooms have access to an outdoor terrace, where a free breakfast and drinks are served as well. For an indoor swimming pool and Turkish bath, compare rates at BEST WESTERN Hotel Galles.
