Elegant, whimsical rooms and public spaces are designed with a fairytale theme -- think blue ombre paint, shiny curtains, and a heavy hand with floral wall stencils. Bathrooms are large and airy with white fixtures and deep soaking tubs. A wine bar, lobby bar, and gourmet restaurant are convenient, and the on-site spa is a definite perk with a grotto-style swimming pool. The Chateau Monfort looks like something from a very detailed dream. The lobby resembles a ballroom with a sweeping staircase, arched entryways, and Italian fresco style paintings on the walls. Bar Mezzanotte features a domed atrium overhead and Queen Anne style dining chairs upholstered in sorbet colors. Look for romantic details like white tablecloths strewn with red rose petals and silverware designed to mimic old-fashioned keys.

While the Chateau Monfort is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood with quick access to high-end shops and fancy restaurants, it's not quite as posh or sceney as the center of Milan -- which is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel. It's a good option for those who want a quiet hotel, but there are luxury options for around the same price a bit closer to the action.

Chateau Monfort has 77 rooms, including five Junior Suites and five full Suites. Each room is decorated to replicate a fairytale or a song. The skylight-lit bright and airy rooms have modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, electronic safes, and minibars, plus whimsical decorations such as painted bird cages and purple settees. Be warned that some of the bathrooms are made of transparent glass walls. Bathrooms are clean with deep soaking bathtubs and white marble sinks. Wi-Fi is free.

Like most swimming pools in Milan, the pool at Chateau Monfort is indoors and part of the spa. The ambiance there is low-lit and romantic with a Turkish bath and jacuzzi. The fitness center isn't the biggest one we've seen, but it has cardio machines and ample space to stretch. The on-site restaurants and wine bar are real standouts -- each is uniquely decorated with loads of charming details. There isn't a business center and the cost of breakfast is high.
