Set on a side street off one of Milan's busiest shopping thoroughfares, Camperio House Suites & Apartments occupies a former 16th century nobleman's residence and Benedictine monastery. Many of its architectural elements remain, including the interior courtyard and garden outside the front entrance, arcaded on three sides with columns of the Tuscan order and fashioned after an ancient Roman peristyle. While not unattractive, the reception area is a bit cramped and could use a once-over for minor things, like stained industrial carpet and chipping paint. That said, the grand, spiral staircase with large tapestries adds a regal touch. The lobby incorporates modern decor, arranged below an impressive, old brick vaulted ceiling. Bright yellow tufted club sofas and ruby red velvet chairs with floral print pop against neutral tones on the walls and floor. Sconces and table lamps cast a soft glow. A sleek bar jazzes up the room and energizes the space, and there's an outdoor terrace with city views. The restaurant is bright thanks to plenty of windows below the gleaming white tin ceiling.
