The 124-room SLS Brickell is an upscale hotel with a hip boutique feel and bustling location in Miami's Brickell financial district. Guests can expect a white, black, and pale-pink color palette in the Philippe Starck-designed rooms and suites, plus thoughtful minibar items, luxe bath products, and balconies. This hotel has two celebrity chef-led restaurants, a rooftop pool area, and a state-of-the-art fitness room. There are also a small spa, beach club access at the Delano South Beach, and a resort fee that covers Wi-Fi, beach chairs, laundry services, and house car drop-offs. Scene

Hip tower hotel with lots of artwork, designer elements, and young crowd

SLS Brickell opened in late 2016. The reception area is small and mostly concrete, while the Philippe Starck-designed rooms are white, pink, and black with metallic and mirror accents. On the whole, guests can expect a minimalist, artsy boutique vibe with decor that sometimes feels like an installation. For example, the ceiling of the valet area is digitized and features changing art work across the screen, and the small lobby cocktail lounge feels welcomingly out of place with warm, tribal tones, animal skins, and rustic-inspired furniture. Close-to-life-sized graphics of people in the elevator, colorful striped walls, and carpeted hallways also help to keep things cozy among all the minimalism. True to the SLS brand, there are also a few hidden monkeys throughout, and a large duck sculpture by the pool. This tower building rises up among several other hotels and office buildings crowding the bustling Brickell area, and draws lots of corporate guests and transient groups in their 20s, 30s, and 40s thanks to its style, features, and location.

Location

Bustling Brickell location, within driving distance of major sights

SLS Brickell is located in Miami's Brickell neighborhood, a global financial hub filled with high-rise condos and office towers. There are dozens of cafes, restaurants, and bars within a three-block walk. Guests can also hop on the MetroMover at the Financial District stop, less than a block away, for a free ride to downtown attractions such as the Bayside Marketplace, AmericanAirlines Arena, and Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. The Port of Miami is an 11-minute drive from the hotel, while Miami International Airport is a 14-minute drive. The parties of South Beach and murals of Wynwood can be reached in under 15 minutes (depending on traffic) by car.

Rooms

Sleek and modern rooms designed by Philippe Starck

SLS Brickell has 124 Philippe Starck-designed rooms decked out in a pink, black, and white color palette, with modern and minimalist furniture, touches of contemporary art, and silver metal accents. Well-stocked minibars include the basics plus chocolates, intimacy packs, toiletry extras, and artisan cocktail mixers. Soft bathrobes, slippers, and carpeted rooms keep things comfortable, while Ciel Reserve bath products, nightly turndown, and rainfall showerheads feel upscale. All rooms come with Lavazza espresso machines (first round of pods is free), city or waterfront views, and at least 55-inch flat-screen TVs. Superior King Rooms start things off on the top floor, although they are the only category without a balcony. Premier King Rooms add a sexy touch with mirrors above the beds and dual showerheads, while all suites have wraparound balconies, separate living room areas, and more of an artsy lean in the decor. Most rooms and suites are shower-only, but Lifestyle Suites and up include large soaking tubs. SLS and Presidential Suites come with the added perk of free continental breakfast.

Features

Two chef restaurants and two bars, plus a top-notch gym and small spa

Two chef-helmed restaurants make this hotel a hotspot for dining. Michael Schwartz's Fi'lia serves up Italian food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (plus a weekend brunch) in a minimalist setting that features lots of green plants and natural wood. The vibe here stays hip over hippie thanks to techno music and weekend DJ sets. Spanish chef Jose Andres is behind the dinner-only Bazaar Mar, a seafood restaurant with an open kitchen and chic blue-and-white tiles. Drinks come easy at both Sam's Lounge, the hotel's modern lodge-like cocktail lounge, and the gold and black Bar Centro inside Bazaar Mar that's popular for pre-dinner drinks and tapas. Three rooftop pools make the SLS Brickell feel like an oasis in the city, though the smallest pool is only deep enough to dip your feet. The two larger pools are suitable for a good swim, and all are open from sunrise to sunset. Guests can grab towels and counter service from the poolside Altitude Bar (serving the Fi'lia menu), relax on first-come, first-served padded lounge chairs or daybeds, and soak in the two hot tubs. Open-air cabanas are available for an extra fee, and come with bottled water, flat-screen TVs, piped-in music, and optional bottle service. Beach access is also available at the Delano South Beach, where SLS Brickell guests are set up with two free lounge chairs and an umbrella. The pool deck is also home to the hotel's spa and fitness facilities. The spa small has three treatment rooms, a co-ed steam room, and 24-hour saunas in each of the locker rooms. However, the hotel's fitness room shines. Shared with the residents, guests have access to three rooms (cardio, weight, and spinning) stocked with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment. Meeting room and event space includes a large ballroom and four conference-style rooms, and there is a business center located in Sam's Lounge. This hotel charges a resort fee that covers Wi-Fi, 24-hour gym access, free car drops-offs within a three-mile radius, and daily digital newspapers. This fee also covers beach access, two lounge chairs and an umbrella, and free laundering for gym clothes and pressing service for two pieces of clothing. Valet parking is hectic, managed through your cell phone, and expensive.
