This small, stylish boutique hotel has a modern aesthetic and chic front entrance, but it struggles in the shadow of the Boulan, its sister hotel, which has a swimming pool (that guests of this hotel have free access to). Guests at the South Beach Hotel (SBH) receive vouchers for free breakfast at an off-site, but nearby, restaurant as well. The rooms are clean and have basic amenities such as plasma TVs and free Wi-Fi but guests should beware they will be charged heavily for partaking of the minibar or other items showcased in the rooms, which can get noisy, particularly at night when partiers are returning.
Scene
A boutique vibe
Just off of Collins Avenue, tucked away from the bustle of South Beach’s famous, hectic nightlife, the South Beach Hotel remains close to the action and ocean, and guests tend to be party goers that sun by day and club by night. The lobby and rooms are compact and feature the artwork of an artist-in-residence, but the chic aesthetic is a side note as guests are more inclined to leave the premises for a swim in the ocean, a Cuban meal, or a cold cocktail before hitting the clubs.
Location
Easy access to beaches and bars, culture and cuisine, and the sister hoetl
Located a block from the ocean on alongside Boulan, its sister hotel, the South Beach Hotel offers guests safe, walking-distance access – and even faster bike access – to South Beach’s main attractions: the ocean, arts, shopping, dining, and nightlife. Its just five minutes from the beach and the Bass Museum of Art, and about a 10-minute walk to Ocean Drive's restaurants, bars, and clubs.
Rooms
Clean, basic amenities with plenty of items for purchase on display
The compact rooms are chic and modern with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen plasma TVs with satellite service, and shower-only bathrooms complete with rainfall showerheads, bathrobes, and hair dryers. Keeping with the boutique aesthetic, the amenities are basic and include essentials like air conditioning, phones with free local calls, and clean beds with pilllowtop mattresses and stylish bedding and furniture. However, many guests complain of thin walls, and don’t appreciate the pricey minibar and other overpriced items (like sunscreen) that monopolize the room’s limited counter space.
Features
Sparse hotel amenities, but with access to a pool and free breakfast
Catering to South Beach partygoers, culture vultures, and sun worshippers, the South Beach Hotel’s limited features reflect the guest’s plans to spend most of their time off premises. Easy access to the beach and free towels and loungers are noteworthy, as is free access to the rooftop pool next door, and a free continental breakfast at nearby Charles Street Restaurant.
