Bottom Line

This upper-middle-range property is a vast, seven-acre complex with 174 suites and villas that edge the golf course of Trump National's 12th and 13th holes. All of the suites function more like an apartment than a hotel room, as they have full kitchens and living space. Perks include an outdoor swimming pool and sundeck, a bar, a steakhouse, 24-hour fitness center, and spa, as well as meeting and banquet facilities. Some rooms and common areas show wear and tear, and the sheer size of the grounds makes for some long walks to the lobby, pool, and restaurant. The nearby Marriott's Villas at Doral are pricier, but include access to a lakeside beach and large villas.

Scene

Stately buildings and expansive tropical grounds pulls a wide range of travelers

The Provident Doral at The Blue Miami is composed of 12 buildings, all built to match, with white stately exteriors and green roofs. The lobby building is largest, with a series of two-story square columns flanking the entry. The reception area features polished marble floors and a small seating area. Guests who check in while the desk staff is on duty are greeted with arrival drinks. Some suites are located on the upper floors of the reception building, with the pool on one side and the steakhouse on the other side. Stone pavers connect the villas and public spaces. The pool and landscaping are nicely maintained. The hotel provides golf carts for traversing the distances, but the wait can be long during peak times. Guests are a diverse mix of travelers that includes families, couples, and guests in town for events and business conferences.

Location

Convenient location for shopping and golf in Doral

For travelers interested in golf and shopping in Doral, this hotel is in a great location. The property abuts the Trump National Golf Course and it's a 15-minute walk to the course's entrance from the lobby. There are two more golf courses within a 10-minute drive, as well as two enormous malls within a 17-minute drive. Doral is a 33-minute drive to downtown Miami, a 36-minute drive to South Beach, and 25 minutes away from Miami International Airport by car. Most guests bring their own cars for getting around Doral, as there are no reliable public transportation options.

Rooms

Suites and villas with full kitchens and living rooms, though some are a bit worn

All the rooms here are spacious suites or villas with clean, minimal lines and neutral colors -- furnishings and decor usually come in chocolate browns and crisp whites -- so the units are aesthetically on point. Even so, you should expect to see some wear and tear in spots. The kitchens are outfitted with coffeemakers, microwaves, and stainless steel appliances, but don't have ovens. Guests must request items like toasters and dishwashing liquid. Suites come with irons, ironing boards, safes, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Bottled water is provided for a fee. The villas come with three bedrooms and four full baths spread over two floors. All units feature glass showers with rainfall showerheads and separate jetted tubs. Hairdryers and small toiletries are provided. Rooms either overlook the golf course or pool and are reportedly quiet.

Features

Pool with water features, Azul Spa, and 5300 Chop House

Features at the Provident Doral offer some of the perks of a home away from home, plus nice hotel features. The large outdoor pool has loungers, umbrellas, and cabanas in addition to a bar counter, and it's open year-round. Water jets spray into the pool for an interesting effect. Azul Spa has a sauna and hot tub in addition to massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures. The property has a steakhouse where breakfast, lunch, and dinner may be purchased. There's also a bar by the pool for snacks and lighter fare. Room service is available. The 24-hour gym has free weights and exercise equipment. For events, there's 3,500 square feet of flexible meeting space, including indoor and outdoor areas to choose from, as well as full catering. The property is vast, so getting around requires either a lot of walking or a lot of patience while waiting for the shuttle golf cart. Wi-Fi and parking are both free.
