This towering, 601-room Downtown Marriott caters mostly to business travelers. The large pool, modern fitness center, business center, and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel make it a great value pick. Though more stylish, the Epic and Intercontinental hotels both have similar amenities, but often cost considerably more.
Scene
This massive, 601-room tower in Downtown Miami is a pretty standard business hotel, but modern rooms and generally low rates make it a solid option.
With 601 rooms on 31 floors, this Marriott is a behemoth by Miami standards. Set in Downtown Miami's financial district, it towers over Biscayne Bay. Business travelers, cruise-ship passengers, and guests cashing in on their Marriott rewards points fill the hotel, but the lobby remains sleepy as they check in and out.Marriott's towering building is attached to (but not affiliated with) the Grand and Doubletree Grand Biscayne Bay, which houses condos, offices, five restaurants, and a couple of shops. The complex can feel a bit like a shopping mall. Guests who wander around the bay-view deck can join customers at the bars there, but the area is appropriately sleepy for this section of Downtown.
Location
This is an ideal spot in Downtown’s financial district for business travelers. It's just 20 minutes from Miami International Airport, but the fun is elsewhere.
The hotel is connected by a direct hallway to the Grand, a complex of offices, condos, a couple of shops, five restaurants, offices, and condominiums that faces Biscayne Bay and also houses Doubletree Grand Biscayne Bay hotel. The surrounding area is otherwise fairly dull, but it's conveniently located in the financial district for business travelers. South Beach is a 10-minute, $15 cab ride away.
Rooms
Rooms are large, with modern amenities like iPod docks and flat-screen TVs
Rooms here are incredibly spacious, with large work desks, expansive vanities in the bathrooms, and modern amenities like flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Therefore, it's a bit surprising (and annoying) that they lack minibars, and Wi-Fi requires an additional fee. Decor is standard for a mid-range hotel (picture framed prints and neutral colors), but it's fresh and clean, and bedding is plush. Some rooms have views of the bay.
Features
Features for both business travelers and families
Amenities here are plentiful, and though this area largely attracts business travelers, families also frequent the hotel; after all, it features several dining options, a heated outdoor pool, and spacious rooms. There's also a business center, a modern gym with numerous cardio and weight-training machines, and a mini-mart, and the hotel sits on a marina. Wi-Fi costs an additional fee.
