Colorful hotel with funky decor
Two blocks from the beach and around the block from shopping and nightlife on Lincoln Road
Spacious rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves
Computer and printer available for guests' use
Free coffee in the lobby 24/7
Free Wi-Fi and parking
Quirky decor won’t suit
all tastes
Rooms are dated and feel a bit barren
No pool or fitness center
No breakfast
It would be hard to walk past the James Hotel without noticing it: the
50-room, value property is covered in a chaotic animal motif in an array of
colors. The wacky decor continues into the lobby, but the guest rooms are a
stark contrast -- the simple, no-frills spaces have little decor and are a bit dated, but they're spacious and have mini-fridges and microwaves. The hotel offers few amenities, but parking is free and the convenient location is just two blocks from the beach. Decor will certainly not suit all tastes; travelers seeking a hotel with a more traditional aesthetic should compare rates with The Clay Hotel, an affordable boutique with Old World charm.
Scene
Value hotel covered in animal knickknacks
The façade of James Hotel features large paintings
of colorful parrots and fish, while dolphins and mermaids protrude off blue and
peach squares. Benches in a variety of styles are lined up on the porch to
provide a spot for guests to sit outside. Inside, the lobby is just as kooky
with mismatched couches surrounding a big dolphin statue on a table. Blue and pink
walls are covered in animal knickknacks including lots of butterflies and
fish. The whole scene feels something like being in a souvenir shop. Hallways also look a bit cluttered, with blue stenciled
waves on a peach backdrop as well as large painted fish and a forest scene against an
orange backdrop. Tiffany-style ceiling lamps add to the quirky disarray. Overall, the property has plenty of character, but the decor will not suit all tastes.
Location
Two blocks from the beach and around the corner from Lincoln Road
James
Hotel is situated on James Avenue, just
around the corner from
Lincoln Road Mall, a pedestrian street with shops, cafes, bars, and galleries. It’s
only two blocks to the beach, and a 10-minute walk to the Miami Beach
Convention Center. American Airlines Arena
(home of the Miami Heat) and the Miami International Airport are within a 30-minute
drive.
Rooms
Simple, spacious rooms with free Wi-Fi, but a bit on the spare side
Rooms at the
hotel are spacious and feature white walls, tile floors, and little decor, which contribute to a stark and barren feel. Some rooms are more dated than others with popcorn ceilings and scuffed up walls, while more modern rooms have light wooden accent walls. All rooms are furnished with small tables or desks, mini-fridges, microwaves, and flat-screen TVs, plus they have free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are small and have either stand-up showers or shower/tub combinations.
Features
Free parking, business center, and free coffee in the lobby
This simple hotel doesn't offer many amenities, but
the free parking is a huge bonus, especially for the area. The hotel has a
business center with one computer and a printer, and there’s free coffee in the
lobby 24/7. An ATM and soda vending machine are also in the lobby.
