The tiny Ithaca hotel occupies the second floor of a nondescript historic building, a half-block from Ocean Drive. This upper-mid-range boutique -- named after the poem by C.P. Cavafy -- has 11 individually designed, chic rooms. Rooms are
spacious and Art Deco-inspired, outfitted with up-to-date amenities like iPod docks and Google TVs. Daily breakfast is free, as are snacks and coffee, and there's an honor bar and daily social hour with free drinks. Beach chairs and towels are available to borrow. The hotel lacks a pool, gym, and restaurant, though.
Scene
Intimate and communal, with afternoon social hours and an honor bar
The vibe at the Ithaca is laid-back but it nonetheless feels chic. The lobby is small and a bit dark, but decor like beechwood floors, a wall of mirrors, and four leather chairs for lounging are nice touches. Snacks, coffee, tea, and water are available free all day. The hotel hosts a social hour each evening, where guests mingle and chat over free plates of cheese and glasses of wine. The hotel is popular with couples and families who are looking
for a peaceful spot close to Lincoln Road and
Ocean Drive.
Location
Adjacent to the beach on trendy Collins Avenue
Around the corner from Ocean Avenue, the hotel is within walking distance of shops, bars, and restaurants. Outside, the hotel is easy to miss with its discreet sign; it's located on the second floor of an older building, above some shops. Lincoln Road -- crammed full of unique shops and sidewalk cafes -- is a 25-minute walk away. Lummus Park Beach and its lovely cycling paths are a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
South Pointe Park is a brisk 10-minute walk away, and is full of gorgeous
winding lanes where you can rollerblade around. The hotel offers valet parking for a fee.
Rooms
Large, Deco-inspired, and individually decorated, with all the modern amenities
The 11 individually decorated rooms at the Ithaca are all spacious and bright, with white walls, wooden floors, and the occasional splash of bright color in the furniture and pillows. There’s a playfulness to the rooms
that's demonstrated through the use of cowhide rugs and fun wall art. Welcome
chocolates are a cute perk. Beds have soft, white quilted headboards and
pillowtop mattresses. Furniture is
chic and contemporary, with a Deco flourish. Each room has modern amenities, including air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, an iPod dock, and even a
Google TV that has access to Netflix and YouTube. The minibar is well-stocked
with snacks and drinks, and the bathrooms are good-sized and clean, with bathrobes and waterfall showerheads that have built-in massagers. Toiletries are from the French Algotherm line. Some rooms have small private balconies, but the views (all of the street outside) aren’t the best.
Features
Free champagne at check-in, free breakfast, and daily social hours -- but no gym or restaurant
Most of this hotel's best features, such as Netflix and YouTube on the Google TVs, are found in the rooms. For trips to the beach, the hotel does provide folding chairs, umbrellas, towels, and beach bags. An afternoon
wine and cheese hour is held daily in the lobby, and free coffee, tea, snacks, and water are available in the lobby throughout the day.
Free champagne is offered at check-in and there's an honor bar as well. The hotel offers a basic free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Note that there's no elevator and all rooms are up a set of stairs. The hotel also lacks a pool, full restaurant, and gym.
