The Casa Victoria Orchid is
a charming, mid-range hotel with 22 rooms located in the heart of Miami Beach’s
South Beach district. It's a good location for tourists who prefer to stay
away from the party atmosphere of areas like Ocean Drive. Located on a
picturesque street of Spanish-style buildings, the hotel is within easy walking distance of the beach, shops, and restaurants. Guest rooms have a chic, natural elegance and are equipped with kitchenettes. And the hotel has enticing freebies: loaner iPads, free bike rentals, breakfast, and some international calls. However, breakfast is limited, and the hotel lacks a pool and gym. There are a few mid-range hotels offering more amenities for marginally higher rates: The nearby Courtyard by Marriott Miami
Beach South Beach has an outdoor pool and gym, and Edgewater South Beach is
located just across from the beach and includes happy hour rooftop cocktails.
Scene
European style in the heart of South Beach on charming Espanola Way
Casa Victoria Orchid’s style
is described as “Spanish colonial” and its pink-and-white exterior is similar
to other buildings on the Espanola Way, a pleasant street lined with palm
trees. The lobby is a charming courtyard with pink walls and wrought-iron chairs. Shell-pink is again the dominant color in the reception area and in the hallways,
while the cream-colored interiors of the guest rooms are easier on the eye. Interior designers seem to have skipped the breakfast room, which looks like a dull school cafeteria. Located in the heart of South Beach with many shops,
restaurants, and cafes just steps away, most of the guests staying here are
tourists. Compared to the party atmosphere of other districts closer to the
beach, the scene at Casa Victoria Orchid is more toned down, making it popular
with couples on vacation.
Location
On a quiet street away from the noisy bar scene
While many of Miami Beach’s
most popular hotels are located on the beachfront, Casa Victoria Orchid is a
few blocks away from the beach on a picturesque street lined with palm trees
and many restaurants, cafes, and shops. Its location offers a quiet alternative
to the noisy bars of Ocean Drive, where many of the beachside hotels are. The
beach is easily accessible and only a seven-minute walk away, and Lincoln Road Mall is a five-minute walk. Several sights are within 10 to 15 minutes on foot: Lincoln Road promenade, Versace Mansion, Miami Beach Convention Center, and the Art Deco District. The Miami Beach Marina and Miami Beach Golf Club are both an eight-minute drive, and Jungle Island is a 15-minute drive. Miami International Airport is about 30 minutes' drive, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is 35 to 55 minutes, depending on traffic and route.
Rooms
Spacious and comfortable rooms in an understated, natural style
The rooms at Casa Victoria
Orchid are spacious and decorated in a minimalist, almost stark style with
off-white walls, beautiful beige stone floors, and wooden furniture. Junior
Suites have kitchenettes complete with sinks, microwaves, stovetops, and
full-size refrigerators. The only other category of room is the Superior Room, each of which has a
kitchenette with a microwave, small sink, and mini-fridge. All rooms are air-conditioned and have flat-screen
TVs, irons and ironing boards, coffeemakers, safes, and work desks. Bathrooms are gorgeous and luxe with stone floors and walk-in showers, glass basin sinks, and Gilchrist
& Soames luxury toiletries. The rooms with balconies have views of the street below, while those overlooking the courtyard tend to be
quieter.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, phone calls, iPad use, and bicycles
Casa Victoria Orchid offers
a few small extras like free use of bicycles, free domestic and
international phone calls to certain countries, and free use of iPads for
one hour. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, and there’s a 24-hour
coffee/tea corner. Free continental breakfast is served in the uninspiring breakfast
room, though the selection is a little lackluster according to guests: waffles, eggs, cereal, yogurt, breads, coffee, and juice. Guests have access to the pool and gym at sister property Hotel Victor, a half-mile away.
