This upscale boutique hotel, housed in the historic former Tennessee Trust Bank building, is one of Memphis’ most stylish non-chain properties. There are breathtaking views of the Mississippi River from the venue’s Hu. Roof and Southern-inspired cuisine is offered at Hu. Diner restaurant. The fitness center has a quirky setting in a former bank vault. Many of the updated rooms and suites have separate shower stalls and tubs. Housekeeping service can be on the slow side and parking is less expensive in nearby garages, but there aren’t many downsides here for travelers looking for luxury.
Scene
Stylish and fun, with musical motifs throughout
The atmosphere here is upscale but also fun, with a subtle musical theme throughout the property. There are paintings of brass instruments on the walls while album covers from iconic pop, rock, and soul musicians decorate elevators. The large, bright lobby is an inviting space with a big grand piano and dark bongo-shaped tables. The Hu. Roof has stylish black and white furniture with bright purple accents and superb views of the Memphis skyline, the Mississippi River, and Hernando de Soto Bridge. The eatery eighty3 is vibrant, with graffiti-like paintings and a backlit green and blue bar. Most guests are couples visiting Memphis, though business travelers like it here too.
Location
In the middle of downtown, within walking distance to most attractions
In the middle of downtown Memphis and easily accessible from the nearby interstate, the hotel is close to restaurants and other attractions while being a block away from the riverfront. The Hu. Hotel is just a few blocks south of the Memphis Cook Convention Center. Getting to the nightclubs and bars on Beale Street and FedExForum arena is about a 10- to 15-minute walk south. Both Graceland and Memphis International Airport can be reached in around 15 minutes by car.
Rooms
Modern and stylish, some with separate showers and tubs in bathrooms
The Hu. Hotel's 110 rooms and suites have slightly trendy, sophisticated decor, with hardwood floors and carpeting under plush beds which sit in front of swirly black and white wallpaper. The overall palette often consists of neutral tones with splashes of color depending on the space. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, wireless speakers, minibars, coffeemakers, robes, and safes. Large bathrooms have wide vanities and stall showers with rainfall showerheads. Some include separate tubs. There is nightly turndown service, though rooms can be cleaned on the late side of the day. Wi-Fi is free.
