is an upscale property in a beautiful stone and brick building with decorative cornices and half-moon windows that was built in the early 1900s. The look is classic and timeless, which carries over inside the hotel as well. The lobby has a warm
vibe, with a cinnamon-toned rug and shimmery, plush taupe couches. Antique chairs look sharp against more modern pieces, like the heavy pyramid-block side tables that will reappear in some guest rooms. Though this is a mid-size boutique property, there are plenty of places for guests to gather throughout. Felt restaurant is an elegant space with wooden floors, tables, and chairs, as
well as a long booth lining one wall. It's popular with hotel guests and locals as well. The hotel’s bar is in a cozy corner with a
fireplace, and the adjoining space holds a billiards table as well as memorabilia
of the Australian billiard champion Walter Lindrum. This property attracts leisure travelers --  mostly couples -- though plenty of business guests pass through as well.

This hotel is located in Melbourne’s
Central Business District near the Treasury Gardens. There are plenty of
high-end boutiques, galleries, cafes, and restaurants within walking distance, as well as several museums.
Several of the city’s famous theaters are within a 10-minute walk, including the
Regent, Athenaeum and Princess. For tennis fans, the Australian Open takes place at Rod Laver Arena, a 15-minute walk from the hotel, while locally iconic Flinders Street Station is an eight-minute walk from the hotel. It takes 20 minutes to reach the Melbourne
Cricket Ground on foot, as well as the National Gallery of Victoria across the Yarra
River. Both the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Shrine of Remembrance are within
a 10-minute drive of the hotel, and the airport takes 30 minutes to reach by car.

Rooms here are
spacious and modern, with light-gray accent walls and crisp white bedding with decorative
pillows. Chic furnishings include stylish lamps, earth-toned chaise lounge
chairs, hardwood desks and bureaus, and wood-block end tables. Overall decor is simple, but attractive, with subtle mod touches. Wall art is limited to a few small black-and-white photographs, and patterned tan carpets line the floors. All rooms have wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, iPod docking
stations, laptop-sized safes, and free Wi-Fi. Desks and electric kettles
are an added convenience, and pretty bathrooms have wooden floors, bathrobes, and high-end toiletries (like Appelles Apothecary amenity
kits), but guests complain shower/tub combos are narrow. Views aren't much to write home about, and some are of a neighboring parking lot.

The hotel has a restaurant that serves a
breakfast buffet (for a fee) and a seasonal dinner menu as well as high tea on
Sundays. There’s also a small bar with a fireplace and a billiards table where guests frequently gather. Free
iPads are available for guests to borrow, and a boardroom is available for
private events. Welcome drinks are given to club members. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
