Little character in the decor
Like many serviced apartments in Melbourne, the three-pearl City Limits Serviced Apartments is modern, but offers few amenities and characterless spaces. The 32 apartments are clean and fairly new in design, with small kitchenettes, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, however, some note bothersome street noise. Breakfast is often included in a stay, but is limited to bread and cereal delivered to rooms. While a few parking spots and a small meeting room are good additions, the best feature is probably the hotel’s central Melbourne location in Chinatown that makes reaching main attractions, like Carlton Gardens, quite convenient on foot. Ibis Styles Melbourne, The Victoria Hotel is an affordable (though less modern) alternative that has more amenities like an indoor pool, hot tub, gym, and restaurant.
Scene
Apartment-style hotel with few public spaces and a mixed clientele
City Limits Serviced Apartments attracts a varied clientele from couples to families and even groups of friends. Like many apartment-style hotels, the property doesn’t have much character or public spaces, but is clean and modern in design with 24-hour reception service. The lobby is composed of a front desk and a few seating areas with colorful, plush velour armchairs set on maroon carpet. Framed art pieces on the walls gives the lobby a bit of an interest. The small, but modern, meeting room area off to the side of the lobby is the only place for guests to interact over a game of chess or with a cup of free coffee.
Location
Within a seven-minute walk to restaurants, train station, and St. Paul's Cathedral
City Limits Serviced Apartment has a walkable location to popular attractions and areas in Melbourne. It sits at the north end of Chinatown, surrounded by dining options and shops. Tram and bus stops are around the corner and Parliament Station is just a two-minute walk away. St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Carlton Gardens take seven minutes to reach on foot. Federation Square is a 20-minute walk away. It’s a 32-minute drive to Melbourne Airport.
Rooms
Modern apartments with kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs
Thanks to a 2016 refurbishment project, all the rooms have the same modern decor. The black carpet with gray floral designs is the loveliest feature. The white beds are simple with an olive-green bed runner, as is the black or white streamlined furniture. The city photographs above the beds add a decorative element to the otherwise plain walls. All rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, and kitchenettes with microwaves, mini-fridges, sinks, coffee- and tea-making facilities, toasters, crockery, cutlery, glassware, and hot plates upon request. The white bathrooms are contemporary with shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers. Some past guests have reported bothersome street noise.
Features
Few amenities include a simple breakfast delivered to rooms and a laundry room
Features at City Limits Serviced Apartments are quite limited. There’s no bar, restaurant, pool, or fitness center. Breakfast consists of two slices of toast, a package of cereal, jams, and coffee, all of which is placed in room fridges for the next day. It’s generally free, except for guests that book non-refundable room types. There’s a small meeting room that holds up to six people, which is arguably the only public space for guests, too, as it has a chess board game, free coffee and tea throughout the day, and a public computer. A coin-operated laundry room and limited parking for a fee are available. Free Wi-Fi is found throughout the property.
