Located in the northwestern part of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD), the Atlantis Hotel is a 232-room business hotel that provides easy access to the Etihad Stadium and Victoria Market. The lodgings here are simple and vary in size in order to accommodate families; all rooms have generic decor typical of mid-range chain hotels. On-site amenities include an indoor pool, large fitness center, and four meeting/event spaces. However, Wi-Fi and parking both cost extra, and breakfast is not included in most rates. Beyond the breakfast room, the hotel lacks a bar and restaurant. Compare rates with the Mercure Melbourne Albert Park just south of the CBD, which offers many of the same amenities as the Atlantis, but also has a restaurant and a cafe.
Scene
Bland business hotel with boring exteriors and barely sleeker interiors
The Atlantis Hotel caters primarily to business travelers, owing largely to its location in central Melbourne and its four conference rooms. Housed in a bland industrial building on a busy road, it looks a bit like a budget hotel or student housing from the outside. The interiors are a bit nicer, with marble floors and low, retro-style black leather sofas that look out onto the street through floor-to-ceiling windows. There's also a row of vending machines, as well as a shelf with tourist brochures opposite the front desk. Though the hotel bills itself as upscale, that's a bit of a stretch, and the atmosphere is more akin to what one would expect of a lower-mid-range chain hotel that's attractive for its location and clean rooms.
Location
Conveniently located in the Central Business District, a short walk or drive from Melbourne's main attractions
The Atlantis Hotel is situated in the northwestern part of Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD), on a busy road with plenty of commerce. It's a seven-minute walk to Southern Cross Station and a 10-minute walk to Etihad Stadium. Queen Victoria Market is a 15-minute walk away. The National Gallery of Victoria is a 10-minute drive from the hotel; it takes about the same amount of time to reach both the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Royal Botanic Gardens by car. The airport is just over 15 minutes away by car, without traffic.
Rooms
Basic rooms ranging in size, with modern amenities, some with city views
The Atlantis Hotel has a range of room types, some with city views and all with the same plain, standard decor of dark wood furnishings, white bedspreads with tan accent pillows, muted saffron sofas, and a simple framed print or two. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, writing desks, mini-fridges, irons with ironing boards, and kettles for making tea and coffee. At the larger end of the spectrum, the two-bedroom Family Suites have a queen bed in the master bedroom and two single beds in the second room, but they lack good views and only some have sofas. Bathrooms are narrow but modern and have cream-colored tiles, large vanity areas, and walk-in showers. Accessible rooms are also available.
Features
Modern fitness center, indoor pool, continental breakfast, meeting rooms -- most amenities for a fee
The Atlantis Hotel has a standard range of facilities, including a modern fitness center with orange and yellow walls and a good range of a equipment. There's also a sauna, as well as an indoor lap pool with ceiling track lighting. A continental buffet breakfast of cereal, toast, fruit, and juices is available daily in a plain windowless breakfast room. Breakfast usually costs extra, but the hotel sometimes offers rate deals that include it. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel for a fee, and there's a business center with PCs available for guest use, but it, too, costs extra. The hotel also has four conference/event rooms. Parking is available on-site for a reasonable fee.
