Bottom Line

In an area full of large resorts and condo complexes, the five-room Pineapple Inn is remarkably tiny. This quaint, homey inn features four private rooms and a two-bedroom cottage and has beautifully landscaped grounds with a swimming pool and hot tub. It's not directly on the beach but the ocean can be seen from the rooms, and there are good views from the upper-level units. The cottage has two bedrooms and a full kitchen, but there's a minimum six-night stay required. If beach access is a must-have, check rates at Sugar Beach Resort.

Scene

Peaceful, quaint inn with beautiful gardens

The vibe at the Pineapple Inn is relaxed, especially in the sprawling gardens filled with trees, tropical plants, and fountains. The lobby has a few books and magazines for guests to thumb through as well as a laptop computer and a printer for those who didn't bring their own devices. Just off the lobby is a lanai with a trellis overhanging with bougainvillea and a couple of plush chairs. Guests here tend to be leisure tourists looking for an affordable, intimate alternative to some of the larger resorts on the island.

Location

In a semi-residential neighborhood, a bit inland from the beach

The Pineapple Inn is located in a neighborhood with other hotels and residences. There's a busy road behind the property but it's set far enough away that traffic noise isn't much of an issue. The inn is not directly on the beach; the closest beach takes about 20 minutes to reach on foot. Kahului Airport is a half-hour drive away. Free parking is an added perk.

Rooms

Four rooms with great views and a cottage with a full kitchen and two bedrooms

There are four rooms and a two-bedroom cottage at the Pineapple Inn. The two ground-floor rooms are the cheapest available and look out onto a garden and have partial views of the ocean in the distance. The better views come the slightly pricier rooms on the upper level. Rooms have a mix of dark-wood furnishings and typically Hawaiian leaf-patterned linens and come equipped with microwaves, safes, and mini-fridges stocked with breakfast snacks. All rooms have private lanais (porches or balconies) with seating areas. Bathrooms come with walk-in showers. The two-bedroom cottage has a small living room with a flat-screen TV, a full kitchen with a dishwasher, oven, microwave, and a large fridge as well as a small seating area. There's also a deck with a table and chairs and a barbecue grill and a small bathroom with a shower/tub combo. A minimum six-night stay is required for the cottage. It's worth noting that daily maid service is not available, though fresh towels can be delivered on request.

Features

Small pool and hot tub surrounded by lush gardens

As the Pineapple Inn is a small property, it lacks some of the amenities found in larger resorts in the area. That said, it's surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens full of trees, flowers, and shrubs, with a small pool and a hot tub. There's also a coin-operated laundry room for guest use. Guess can borrow beach chairs and boogie boards for free and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
