Bottom Line

The Maui Seaside Hotel is a budget motel located on the Kahului Bay, though it attracts guests with early flights more often than those who want a beach vacation as the Kahului Airport is less than a five-minute drive away and staff warns that the water in the ocean is polluted. The rooms are simple but have flat-screen TVs and balconies or terraces, and many have sea views. An on-site Hawaiian restaurant, outdoor pool, and sandy beach are nice perks for this price point. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are free.

Scene

Budget motel on the beach

The Maui Seaside Hotel is indeed on the beach of Kahului Bay, but the scene here is more about a cheap place to sleep and check email before an early flight than basking in the sun. The two-story courtyard style buildings are built around the swimming pool which sits in front of an expansive lawn that leads to the ocean. Indoors, the lobby is brightly lit. Dark wood patio furniture is topped with hunter-green cushions. White orb light fixtures hang from the ceiling. There are two desktop computers and fruit-infused water for guests' use.

Location

Near the airport and on the beach

Kahalui is the big city section of the island. This is where the Kahului Airport is located, along with a sugar refinery and general urban landscape. Queen Ka'ahumanu Shopping Center, which includes Macy's department store and a plethora of restaurants, is only a few minutes' walk from the hotel. There's a free shuttle to the airport but a charge for on-site parking.

Rooms

Clean but dated decor

This hotel's 200 rooms are broken into four room types, which vary mostly in size and view, with the most expensive rooms overlooking the ocean and swimming pool. Each is decorated (we use that term loosely) with brown carpet, beige walls, and popcorn ceilings. Framed prints of hula dancers or pineapples hang over the bed. Coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and empty mini-fridges are convenient touches. A plastic rack for hanging clothes is affixed to the wall across from the bathroom. Shower/tub combinations and single sinks are well-maintained and clean. Toiletries and plastic wrapped water glasses are provided.

Features

Free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and an outdoor pool

Features at Maui Seaside Hotel are pretty convenient for this price point. The outdoor swimming pool has ocean views and stylish wicker lounge chairs. Freebies include Wi-Fi, breakfast, and a shuttle to the airport. Hawaiian-style dinner is served a la carte at Tante's Island Grill. There are coin-operated laundry machines for last minute loads of wash and two computers with a printer in the lobby.
