Scene

An aging property with a prime location that draws an array of travelers

This condo hotel is located directly on one of Maui's best white sand beaches, making it impossible to escape the heavenly views or the sounds of crashing waves. The expansive Keawaukapu Beach is active with both hotel guests and public access visitors without feeling crowded. It's this beautiful location that keeps an array of guests (from business travelers to families) coming back for more, as the Mana Kai Maui was constructed in the 1970s and is showing its age. The lobby is open and airy with multicolored tile floors, a wave-shaped ceiling, funky lighting fixtures, a wall made of rocks, aquatic artwork, patterned and geometric furnishings, and island-style wicker chairs that make for a beach-y vibe. The ocean itself can be viewed from various areas throughout the hotel, including the 5 Palms restaurant that features amazing sunset views.

Location

Close to downtown Kihei and near shopping, dining, and nightlife options

Mana Kai Maui is located just outside of downtown Kihei (about a five-minute drive) and is centrally located for touring the island. Nearby shopping, dining, nightlife, and other entertainment options are plentiful, including the pools and waterslides at the Wailea Resort, which is less than a 10-minute drive away. The location is unbeatable (with amazing views of Wailea) and the beach is large and clean. Central to all of Maui, the hotel is located on the border of Kihei and Wailea.

Rooms

A mix of hotel-style rooms and condo units, with many offering beautiful ocean views

Though not a luxury hotel, Mana Kai Maui offers 98 clean, bright, large, and comfortable guest rooms and condo units. Many offer great beachfront views, especially those located on the higher floors. Guests rave about falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. The higher floors tend to have less street noise. The condo units have balconies and kitchens. As many of the units are privately owned, furnishings and upkeep vary. Renovated units have tile floors and updated appliances. Not all units have air-conditioning, so it is best to check before booking. On average, the hotel-style guests rooms tend to be less expensive than the condo units and don't come with lanais. These rooms have typical tropical decor, such as pineapple print upholstery and island-themed artwork. Beds are large and feature tropically patterned red bedding. Walls are painted a soothing shade of yellow and most rooms offer good sunlight. Amenities in the rooms include microwaves, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning.Maid service is offered for both the hotel-style rooms and the condo units.

Features

Stand-up paddle board and bike rental in lobby, as well as a restaurant with striking ocean views

It's all about the beach at Mana Kai Maui. An activities concierge is on hand in the lobby to help guests with arrangements for kayaking, snorkeling, stand-up paddle boarding, and more. Biking is also offered and there is a yoga studio that features a range of classes, as well as a gorgeous ocean vista. The beachfront pool is heated, but it is not very large. Passes to a local gym are available, but the hotel lacks an on-site fitness center.A restaurant located in the lobby is known for its spectacular views all the way down the beach and its varied menu that includes sushi and locally caught seafood. A deli/general store offers grab-and-go items. The hotel caters to families by offering babysitting/childcare services, as well as cribs/rollaway beds.
