They are privately-owned and decorated, but they’re all spacious and come with private balconies, sweeping views, and multiple bathrooms. The gorgeous Kaanapali beach is right outside, and there is no fee to use the resort’s fitness center, pool, and barbecue spot, or attend yoga classes. Plenty of restaurant and shops are within walking distance (although there are none on-site), and each unit features a fully-equipped kitchen. Nearby hotel options include the Westin Maui Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa, which are slightly cheaper with similar amenities.
Scene
These condos situated on handsome gardens are popular with families and couples.
The four secluded 11-story buildings that make up the Kaanapali Alii aren’t anything extraordinary to look at: they’re modern but simple, generic beach condos. The property is, however, fittingly tropical, with flower-strewn balconies, green grass and towering palm trees on eight landscaped acres. The lobby is cheerful and pretty, with not much more than a wide desk, a big mirror, a painting of bright palms, some loud floral chairs, and an arrangement of fresh flowers. Outside, winding paths traverse lush and lovingly-maintained gardens, where flowers blossom and canopy-covered nooks provide shade. The spot is especially popular with families, not surprisingly considering the roomy condos and kid-friendly activities. Couples vacation here too, and during high season, the Kaanapali Alii is bustling.
Location
Kaanapali Alii is right on the breathtaking Kaanapali Beach, and there is plenty to explore within walking distance.
The property is located in Lahaina, on Maui's west coast next to the Westin Maui Resort. The white sands of Kaanapali Beach are directly out front, and stretch all around the Kaanapali Alii. The area is full of resorts and other condos. The boardwalk is right outside, busy with guests on their way to restaurants, bars, and shops at the nearby Whalers Village. There is a free shuttle within Kaanapali Resort for those who prefer not to walk. The 36-hole Kaanapali Golf Courses, which offer golf with ridiculously gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean and the rolling West Maui Mountains, are a five-minute walk away. The resort is also 45 minutes to Kahului airport by car.
Rooms
Luxurious and spacious one- and two-bedroom condos with terraces and wonderful views
The one- and two-bedroom condos here are lavishly big: 1,500 to 1,900 square feet, with sunken living rooms and separate dining rooms. They’re open and airy, with private balconies, multiple bathrooms with big tubs, and full, well-equipped kitchens with shiny appliances, marble countertops, double sinks, and tile floors. Condos are flooded with light, and are decorated in generically stylish, simple furnishings, like glass tables and plush couches. The apartments include abundant fresh flowers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The best part, though, is postcard-worthy ocean views out the big windows. Units are individually-owned and decorated, which means some are nicer than others. Condos on higher floors also get the best views of the ocean.
Features
A state-of-the art fitness center, oceanfront pool, grilling area, tennis courts, yoga, and -- the highlight -- a beautiful beach
The 3,000-square-foot fitness center is full of up-to-date machines and equipment, and there’s a yoga studio with free classes. A beachfront gas barbecue picnic pavilion is stocked with plastic utensils and paper plates. Three clay tennis courts are beautifully lighted, and a pretty, spacious pool is flanked by palm trees and plenty of chairs for lounging. It looks out on the stunning ocean, and there's a small whirlpool nearby. Best of all, there is no resort fee to use the amenities, and parking and Wi-Fi are also free. The nearby beach has sapphire waters and soft white sand. A kids' pool and free kids activities during the summer are big draws for families with children.
