The 78-room Inn at Perry Cabin is one of the most elegant waterfront properties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Frequented by couples, this romantic inn features a spa, heated outdoor pool, upscale restaurant, private boat cruises, and spacious rooms with views of the Miles River. Rooms are among the priciest in the area (for good reason); travelers looking for a cheaper alternative should consider St. Michaels Harbour Inn, four minutes south, which has similar amenities in a more casual setting.
Scene
A romantic and historic waterfront inn
Built as a manor house in 1816, the Inn at Perry Cabin is a quintessential romantic getaway on the water. The 25-acre property is so picturesque, in fact, that the 2005 movie "Wedding Crashers" was filmed there (they’ve been a heavily booked wedding venue ever since). The house was turned into a hotel in the 1970s and a new owner took it over in 2014.A sprawling lawn separates the hotel from the Miles River (a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay), and it’s dotted with Adirondack chairs, fire pits, and a gazebo. A small dock houses a handful of vintage boats, which are available for private two- and four-hour cruises. The grounds also include a lovely boxwood garden, heated outdoor pool, and one of the oldest holly trees on the Eastern Shore.Inside the hotel, a classically decorated Morning Room (think Martha Stewart meets traditional Europe) hosts afternoon teas with champagne (for a fee). The inn has one upscale restaurant, Stars, which has a wall of windows overlooking the waterfront lawn. A nautical-themed pub and lounge bar has its own food menu, a brick fireplace, and a large cupboard of collectible oyster cans. A separate building houses a spa and spacious fitness center.
Location
On the Miles River waterfront near historic downtown St. Michaels
The Inn at Perry Cabin is located directly off the Miles River in historic St. Michaels (a small town of 1.25 square miles). Guests can walk (five minutes), bike, or take a free car service to the heart of downtown, which has a handful of restaurants and shops. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum -- a three-minute walk away -- is a good place to learn about the town’s history.- Three-minute walk from the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
Rooms
Spacious, traditional rooms and suites with mini-fridges and water views
The rooms at the Inn at Perry Cabin have a cozy feel and most feature private balconies or patios with water views. Highlights include free Wi-Fi, bottled water, fruit, turndown service, and newspaper delivery. Mini-fridges, bathrobes, flat-screen TVs, and iPod stereos also come standard in every room. The hotel has nine different room categories, and every unit is somewhat unique layout-wise. Suites have a separate toilet area, bathtub, and shower, and 85 percent have a fireplace.
Features
Restaurant, spa, heated pool, boat charters, daily activities and nice freebies
The Inn at Perry Cabin has plenty of great features for couples, including a full-service spa with a couple’s massage room, a heated outdoor pool with attentive bar service, and vintage charter boats for private cruises. Dining options include an upscale restaurant, stylish lounge bar, and daily afternoon tea. The food and extras are on the pricey side, but the inn has some nice extras as well: kayak and bicycle rentals, car service into town, Wi-Fi, shoeshine service, and daily activities like yoga, wine tasting, and movie nights. The steep resort fee covers these costs.
