This Radisson Blu
is an upscale, 189-room hotel set in the pretty Old Port district of
Marseille, overlooking the harbor. There's little unique or particularly
remarkable about the hotel, and it sticks to the aesthetics of the chain, though a boules pitch and a mini-golf green are certainly unusual additions. Rooms are well-finished, and
harbor views worth paying a little extra for. Features include an outdoor swimming pool. Overall
it's a solid -- if not very interesting -- choice. For something a little
less generic and closer to town, check out the similarly priced Grand
Hotel Beauvau Marseille.
Scene
Modern and familiar chain-hotel ambience throughout
Opened in 2007,
this Radisson Blu Hotel was built following the architectural style of its
neighboring harbor-front properties, albeit with a modern and unexceptional
hotel-chain aesthetic. The lobby area is equally unremarkable, with clean,
contemporary styling and a curving reception desk, and dotted with a few red-velvet seating
areas. The property is spread over two buildings; the main
one opens out to a wooden-terraced game area, while the other building has a back lawn centered around an outdoor swimming pool. Despite the chain ambiance, this hotel is relatively upmarket and attracts a mix of
business and leisure guests who appreciate the security of staying with a known
brand.
Location
Overlooking the harbor in the Marseille's Old Port area
The hotel is situated
between Fort Saint-Nicolas and the Theatre de la Criee, overlooking the harbor
in the center of the Vieux Port of Marseille. There are plenty of restaurants
and bars nearby, as well as the Cinq Mondes Spa, which offers a range of treatments. Marseille Cathedral is a 20-minute walk away and the stunning Palais Longchamp is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. The main train station that connects to direct
to Paris is around 10 minutes by car or 25 minutes away on foot and the Marseille Provence Airport
is a 20-minute drive away.
Rooms
Many rooms have pretty views over the harbor, some from balconies
The hotel's 189
air-conditioned rooms are decorated in a modern but cozy style, with dark-wood
furnishings, patterned fabrics, and Provencal or African-style touches. Most
have views over the harbor or the pool and the Old Port area, and suites come with a balcony or terrace. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi,
well-stocked minibars, and flat-screen TVs with cable access, while some rooms also
have capsule coffeemakers and bathrobes. Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and lots of counter space, but some past guests have complained of bathroom maintenance issues.
Features
Leisure facilities include boules, mini-golf, and swimming pool
The hotel has two
outdoor spaces, one with an artificial boules pitch and a putting green, and the
other with an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by wooden decking and lounge chairs. There's also a fitness room on-site with a few machines. The hotel has couple dining options: the Solaris Restaurant, serving
Mediterranean favorites, and the poolside Blu Square, which offers a menu of grilled dishes and salads. The Cafe Terracotta serves a buffet breakfast every morning (not
generally included in the rate) and guests can also sample cocktails and tapas
in Scirocco Bar, which has views over the port. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
