Bottom Line

The 26-room Villas Los Angeles is a mid-range property set high on a hilltop, offering stunning panoramic views of Manzanillo. Ranging from hotel-style rooms to three-bedroom villas, accommodations all come with stocked kitchens or kitchenettes, lovely Mexican style furnishings, flat-screen TVs, and balconies. There's not much in the way of amenities, just an outdoor pool, grills, and seating areas, as well as free wired Internet in the rooms. The owners, Patricia and Michel, receive praise from past guests for their helpfulness and friendliness. The La Audiencia beach is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, though the walk back requires going up the hill. If you're looking for a home-away-from-home feeling, this is the top option in Manzanillo. The Dolphin Cove Inn is a similar option with a restaurant on-site.

Scene

Peaceful villa property set high on a hill, with stunning panoramic views

After driving up a hill, guests pass under the large white entrance featuring two angels playing trumpets. They can then park and head to check-in at reception, which is a small room filled with books for borrow, a colorful bird, and a couple of worn chairs. Being that the property is high on a hill and has just 26 villas, the atmosphere is peaceful, and flowering bougainvillea adds to the tropical vibe. Guests are an equal mix of couples and families, many of whom stock up on groceries and cook for themselves using their well-stocked kitchens or kitchenettes. Past guests have noted that the owners, Michel and Patricia, are very helpful and will offer suggestions for restaurants and activities.

Location

Hilltop location with panoramic views of Santiago Bay, a 10-minute walk to the La Audiencia beach

Located in the Peninsula de Santiago, Hotel Villas Los Angeles is high on a hill, giving it amazing views of the surrounding area. This also means a cab or car is required to get to most places, but cabs are plentiful and inexpensive. There's also free parking at the hotel. Though the property isn't on the beach, it's a 10-minute walk to Playa La Audiencia, where chairs and umbrellas are available for rent; note that the walk back will be up the hill. There's many restaurants within a 10-minute drive, as well as a Starbucks and Walmart. Las Hadas Golf Resort and Marina, its golf course, and the Barcelo Karmina Palace Deluxe are all about five minutes away by car. The hotel can help arrange various excursions and provide suggestions on places to eat and see.

Rooms

Mexican-style hotel rooms and villas with stocked kitchens, furnished balconies, and flat-screen TVs

There are 26 villas on the property, ranging from hotel rooms to three-bedroom villas. The hotel rooms are smaller (and cheaper), with terra-cotta flooring, beds with white quilts, and colorful, unique furniture. These have kitchenettes stocked with a mini-fridge, coffeemaker and coffee, microwave, and tableware. Ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, in-room safes, and furnished balconies are also standard. While villas have air conditioners, not all hotel rooms do. Bathrooms across the board have marble sinks with fish painted on them, showers, and basic toiletries. Shower floors and fixtures could use a cleaning. One- to three-bedroom villas are more spacious, with separate living and dining room areas. While decorated similarly, they all vary a bit in specific hand-crafted furniture and wall art. Living rooms include two couches and a flat-screen TV, with an adjacent dining room featuring a table and four chairs. The kitchens have a full-size refrigerator, microwave, four-burner stove, various appliances, pots and pans, cutlery, and tableware. Rooms also have wired Internet available for free.

Features

Few amenities, just an outdoor pool with adjacent grills and tables, and a vending machine

Pretty much the only amenity at the hotel is an outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by padded loungers, palm trees, and white metal tables and chairs. It has a swim-up bar, but it's not stocked or manned by staff, and acts as a place for families or friends to congregate. Next to the pool are a few grills, and several tables and chairs. There's also a vending machine on-site.
