Barcelo Karmina
Ave Vista Hermosa 13

The 324-room all-inclusive Barcelo Karmina is an upper-middle-range property with all the amenities you expect from the Barcelo hotel chain. The suites are spacious, if a bit spartan, but have balconies, stocked fridges, and comfortable beds. The beach is smaller than most, bit it's private, so no pesky vendors. The hotel's huge pool complex has six interconnected pools, including an adult-only pool and hot tub. There are four restaurants and five bars, and the food receives solid reviews. Also spread out amongst the Mayan-inspired grounds are a spa, fitness center, meeting spaces, kids' club, and tennis courts. Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby, unless you upgrade to a Club Premium room, though several guests report it isn't worth it.

Dolphin Cove Inn
Avenida Vista Hermosa s/n Peninsula de Santiago, Aun Costado Del Hotel Las Hadas, dentro del condominio Playasol

The 50-room Dolphin Cove Inn is a homey, quiet mid-range hotel suited for couples or families. The beautiful property has airy guest rooms with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and stocked kitchenettes. It's built on a steep hill, which means stunning views from each balcony, and also a lot of steps; the staff will drive guests around in golf carts if mobility is an issue. Though it lacks features like a spa and fitness center, there's an outdoor pool and adjacent kiddy pool, an open-air restaurant, and a snack bar during the high season. The beach is narrow and lacks chairs, but there's a sandy terrace with loungers and steps that lead down to the water. If you want to go the all-inclusive route, Las Hadas Golf Resort and Marina is just down the road.

Las Hadas By Brisas
Avenida Vista Hermosa s/n, Peninsula de Santiago

The 234-room Las Hadas By Brisas is an iconic property and easily the most famous in Manzanillo. Though past its prime, and showing some wear and tear, it's still an upscale option with all the trimmings. The bright guest rooms and suites have flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, all with balconies facing the ocean. Amenities include a large pool with adjacent kiddy pool, sandy beach with water sports available, spa and salon, fitness center, and 18-hole golf course. There are two buffet restaurants and one a la carte, plus three bars. Upgrading to the Brisas Beach Club rooms allows access to the adult-only pool with its own bar. For those with mobility issues, there are a lot of stairs, but the resort provides golf cart service.

Gran Festivall All Inclusive Resort
Carretera Barra de Navidad - Manzanillo Km 12.5

The 450-room, all-inclusive Gran Festivall is a huge, mid-range property geared toward local families. The resort is packed with kid-friendly features -- a kids' club; water park with pirate ship; waterslide pool; evening performances; and sports facilities that include archery and paintball. Kids will love it, but parents and couples may be disenchanted by the wear and tear throughout the property, mediocre food, and entertainment almost exclusively in Spanish. Additionally, the public beach is crowded and lacks free lounge chairs, and Wi-Fi is limited to the lobby. But budget-minded travelers catering to their kids will likely be content. For a more upscale all-inclusive, the pricier Barcelo Karmina Palace Deluxe is a solid pick.

Hotel Vista Playa de Oro Manzanillo
Blvd. Miguel de la Madrid 15, S/n

The Hotel Vista Playa de Oro is a value hotel across the street from the beach in Manzanillo. It largely caters to Mexican families, with ample kid-friendly activities that include a water park, children's pool, sports facilities, and animation team. In need of updating, the 230 rooms feature concrete platform beds, old tube-style TVs, and stains on the chairs, but there are Family Rooms with bunk beds and some rooms with sofa beds. Additionally, there are an outdoor pool with daily activities, kids' club, tennis courts, mini-golf, zip-lining, and nightly entertainment. The property is all-inclusive, but food at the buffet and snack bar receives mixed reviews. The Las Hadas Golf Resort and Marina has similar rates and is more upscale.

Hotel La Posada
Calle Lazaro Cardenas # 201

The 23-room Hotel La Posada is a value hotel enjoying a beachfront location away from the main tourism hub of Manzanillo. Rooms are simple with colorful bedspreads, Mexican furnishings, and ceiling fans, but they lack TVs and phones, and rooms with air-conditioning cost extra. Bathrooms, which could use a deep cleaning, have showers and basic toiletries. Perks include chairs and umbrellas on the beach and by the small outdoor pool. The open-air restaurant is open for through lunch, and a quality hot breakfast is included in the rates. Free Wi-Fi is available in this area, and there's a full-service bar. The peaceful property and low rates make this a solid choice. For a similar stay with more modern rooms, check out the Hotel Villas Los Angeles, though it's a 10-minute walk from the beach.

Tesoro Manzanillo
Avenida Audiencia 1

The 331-room Tesoro Manzanillo is a mid-range all-inclusive that caters primarily to families. Guest rooms were refurbished in 2016, but many dated elements, such as popcorn walls and brown carpeting in some rooms, remain. Rooms come with mini-fridges with water and soda, and shower/tub combos in the bathrooms; they all have balconies and ocean-view rooms are definitely worth the extra cost. The hotel has all the typical amenities: outdoor pool with swim-up bar; pretty private beach with loungers and umbrellas; full-service spa and salon; gym and sports facilities; and well-outfitted Kids' Club. The buffet restaurant receives mixed reviews, but the two a la carte restaurants open for dinner are popular. The evening entertainment gets high praise from guests and there are activities scheduled throughout the day. The Barcelo Karmina Palace Deluxe is another all-inclusive hotel with better value.

Pepes Hideaway
Privada Camino de Don Diego 67, LaPunta

Oasis and haven are a couple of words that come to mind when describing Pepes Hideaway. Located in a private community, the hotel -- with just six bungalows -- is indeed a relaxing, peaceful hideaway. Each bungalow has a gorgeous thatched roof, furnished balconies with hammocks, stocked mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, and robes. They lack air-conditioning and mosquitos can be a problem, but fans, bug spray, and citronella candles are provided. It's an all-inclusive, so three delicious meals are prepared each day and beer, wine, and margaritas are available 24/7. There's an on-site pool with adjacent whirlpool, and a private beach is a 10-minute walk away, or staff will drive guests there. There aren't any TVs and kids are rarely present, making it a wonderful retreat for couples.

Hotel Villas Los Angeles
Calle La Cima S/N, Peninsula De Santiago

The 26-room Villas Los Angeles is a mid-range property set high on a hilltop, offering stunning panoramic views of Manzanillo. Ranging from hotel-style rooms to three-bedroom villas, accommodations all come with stocked kitchens or kitchenettes, lovely Mexican style furnishings, flat-screen TVs, and balconies. There's not much in the way of amenities, just an outdoor pool, grills, and seating areas, as well as free wired Internet in the rooms. The owners, Patricia and Michel, receive praise from past guests for their helpfulness and friendliness. The La Audiencia beach is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, though the walk back requires going up the hill. If you're looking for a home-away-from-home feeling, this is the top option in Manzanillo. The Dolphin Cove Inn is a similar option with a restaurant on-site.

Hotel Marbella
Calle Marbella # 7, Playa Azul

The 98-room Hotel Marbella is a mid-range property offering a good value. The hotel has a large beach, a main pool and adjacent smaller one, two restaurants, and event spaces in a neighboring building. The guest rooms are basic but clean, with flat-screen TVs (in most rooms), air-conditioning, and balconies. Despite some wear and tear, hard beds, and water too strong for swimming, the hotel's central location and free Wi-Fi make it a fine choice for low-key, budget-minded guests.
