Scene
Impressive and beautifully maintained relic with rich history and plush interiors
Opened in 1903 by the Midland Railway to serve Manchester Central railway station, The Midland is one of the oldest hotels in the city and has hosted an impressive roster of royalty and celebrity throughout its prestigious history. The architecture is superb -- a towering Edwardian Baroque facade with grand archways leading into a bright, airy lobby with polished stone floors and numerous dark-wood columns. Interiors are traditional without ever feeling old-fashioned, replete with busy floral prints, marble cladding, and turn-of-the-century touches. Clientele is a mixture of business and pleasure, particularly appealing to tourists who want to experience the rich history of a beautifully maintained architectural treasure.
