Bottom Line

The mid-range 233-room Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street is the biggest Premier Inn chain hotel in Manchester. The renovated guest rooms, which range from Singles to Family Rooms that sleep up to four, are spacious, bright, and clean, and come with big flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, tea/coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. The hotel imposes a Quiet Time from late evening to early morning, and a novel “100 percent goodnight sleep guarantee,” meaning guests can request refunds if they lost a night's sleep due to a problem in the room. Compared with other three-pearl hotels in the vicinity, it’s

Scene

Fresh, clean, friendly, and somewhat funky chain hotel smack in the center of Manchester

The
Premier Inn Manchester City Centre Portland Street is housed in a historic and
attractive red-brick building in the center of Manchester. The hotel entrance
is a simple doorway (the facade of the building is listed and protected as a historic site), which can be easily missed. On the other side of the door, the reception area is decorated with large photographs of city landmarks. The
guest rooms and public spaces have been renovated, and are clean and
bright, and tastefully decorated in a minimalist style. Compared with other
Premier Inn chains, the trademark purple color scheme is significantly toned
down here. The hotel is popular with couples and families, given the Family Rooms and free breakfasts for children under 16 -- not to mention the coloring packs -- and business travelers, who get perks if they open accounts.

Location

In the city center within walking distance of stores, restaurants, and bars

The Premier Inn Manchester
City Centre Portland Street is located in the center of Manchester at the intersection
of Portland Street and Oxford Road in a busy and lively commercial area with
many stores, restaurants, and bars within walking distance. The hotel is a two-minute walk to the Central Coach Station, the city’s main bus
station, and a nine-minute walk to Piccadilly Train Station. Many city
landmarks and attractions, such as the Opera House and Albert Hall, are within easy walking distance. Manchester Airport is about a 30-minute drive away, and Heathrow Airport is about three hours and fifteen minutes by car.

Rooms

Renovated rooms with flat-screen TVs and comfortable beds

The 233 rooms at the Premier Inn Manchester City Centre
Portland Street, which range from Singles to Family Rooms that sleep up to four, are modern, clean, and pleasant, and reasonably large. With double-pane windows, rooms are well-insulated from street noise. All rooms come with 40-inch flat-screen TVs, Hypnos beds, and air-conditioning. Bathrooms, with their wall of big, bold purple tiles, have shower/tub combos, and provide hairdryers and toiletries. Family Rooms have one large bed, and two single beds. Some
rooms have disability access. The rooms looking onto the inner courtyard are
quieter than those that face the street, where bus noise can sometimes be heard.

Features

On-site bar and restaurant, plus free Wi-Fi

The
Thyme restaurant and bar overlooks busy Oxford Road, and is a great place to people
watch. An all-you-can-eat English- or continental-style breakfast is available
for a fee. Kids under 16 eat for free if accompanied by an
adult who orders a full breakfast. Vegans and vegetarians can dine on various plant-based options, like Quorn sausages and soy milk. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, and there are perks for business travelers with accounts.
