The DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly is located in the
center of the city directly across from Piccadilly train station, making this a
convenient place to stay for tourists and business travelers. This upscale hotel has 12 floors with 285 comfortable rooms decorated in a bright,
contemporary style. The Apple iMac in every room which doubles as a TV and
entertainment system is an original touch. But other comparable hotels in the
vicinity offer better value for the money, like The Midland, in an elegant heritage
building with a pool and squash court, or Roomzzz Aparthotel which offers
spacious apartments and includes breakfast.
Scene
Bright and contemporary with a lively bar scene
The DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly has a modern contemporary feel with bright and
spacious common spaces decorated with original contemporary artworks by London
artist Lincoln Townley. The exterior of the building is a glass-and-steel
structure similar to other buildings in the neighborhood. The airy lobby is filled with natural light, and there are several, low-lying gray and purple couches set against a wall of windows, with purple orchids atop tables. There are two bar spaces in the lobby, Urban Bar and Blue Bar, which keep with the hotel's modern yet unremarkable style. The rooftop lounge, Skylounge, has spectacular skyline views of Manchester. There's also a popular bar on the patio at street level where a DJ spins tunes
once a week attracting a lively local crowd; decor is simple and clean, with purple-cushioned wicker chairs and tables. This DoubleTree is especially popular
with couples on weekend trips and business travelers during the week.
Location
Central location right across from Piccadilly train station
The DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly is located across
the street from the Piccadilly train station on Piccadilly Place. The station is actually connected to the hotel via a
bridge, making it only a one-minute walk away. Manchester Central Coach Station, the
long-distance bus station, is just a five-minute walk away, and there's a
Metrolink tram stop near the back entrance of the hotel. There's much available within walking distance. Piccadilly Gardens and Canal Street, center of Manchester Gay Village, are within five minutes' walk, and guests can reach the following places in 10 to 15 minutes on foot: Chinatown, King Street shopping street, and Arndale Shopping Centre. The Deansgate area for bars and pubs is about 20 minutes on foot.
Rooms
Spacious and bright with minimalist contemporary-style and iMacs
The spacious and spotless
rooms at DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Piccadilly are bright and contemporary in style, with modern furniture and subdued decor. Black-and-white photography and mid-century modern-style orange chairs are nice touches. Many rooms have large floor-to-ceiling windows and
are well-insulated from street noise. Each room has air-conditioning, an iron/ironing board, mini-fridge (with soda and free mineral water), tea- and coffee-making facilities, and an iMac
which can also be used as a TV, radio, and CD/DVD player. Free Wi-Fi is
available but is not reliable. The bathrooms are minimalist and functional with
walk-in showers and luxury toiletries; a few rooms also have bathtubs. The
rooms on the upper floors have views of the city skyline and the corner rooms
are especially bright and pleasant. Some rooms are designed with disability
access. Rooms facing the train station look out onto bright billboards which can
be annoying at night. In June 2015, a big building project was underway behind
the hotel, noise from which may affect rooms at the rear of the property.
