Spinola Hotel

Spinola Hotel’s public spaces have a crisp, modern aesthetic and some stylish details—particularly the breakfast room. There's black-and-white seat cushions, lighting fixtures, and drapes in striped and checked patterns, accent walls washed in metallic charcoal hung with copper pans and other knick knacks, and a curved bar with stools tucked in a corner. On the opposite side of the space is the breakfast bar, where good design even applies to cereal dispensers and appliances. In warm weather, guests take meals to the outdoor patio, another appealing space where chic cafe tables line an attractively tiled wall. Couples and other leisure travelers are the hotel's main clientele. 

Spinola Hotel is on a mostly residential street in St. Julian’s town, about a two-minute stroll south of Paceville's restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs. The Ross bus stop is a one-minute walk, and Portomaso Casino is five minutes on foot. Spinola Bay and Portomaso Marina are just under a five-minute walk, and St. George’s Bay and the beach are about seven minutes on foot. There aren’t many tourist attractions in the immediate area. The 16th-century Church of Lady of Mount Carmel is five minutes by car or bus, or a 15-minute walk, and Mediterraneo Marine Park is 10 minutes by bus. The Sliema ferry terminal that runs ferries to Valletta is a 10-minute drive or 15 minutes by bus. Malta International Airport is a little more than a 20-minute drive or 45 minutes by bus from the Spinola Hotel. 

Guest rooms at the Spinola are pleasant, modern spaces with a functional, IKEA-style look. Sage accent walls are set against ash-brown wood laminate headboards, and red lighting fixtures, wall art, and stripped accent pillows make spaces feel pulled together. All rooms contain desks, large wardrobes, and luggage cubes, and standard amenities include air-conditioning, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms also come with electric kettles, but not all have tea or coffee. Bathrooms have attractive mosaic tiling lining showers or shower/tub combos, plus full-size hairdryers, bathrobes, and full-size bottled toiletries. For an upgrade, book a room with a balcony or view of Spinola Bay.

The hotel features a free continental breakfast with croissants, cold cuts, cheeses, and a wide array of other cold items, along with hot items like eggs, bacon, and sausage for a fee. Weather permitting, guests can eat at cafe tables in the hotel’s outdoor as an alternative to the attractive breakfast room inside. There's also a small bar that serves espresso, smoothies, cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. There is no lunch and dinner restaurant on-site, but there are numerous dining options within a short walk of the hotel. Other amenities include a common lounge with TV, 24-hour front desk with tourist assistance, and free Wi-Fi throughout. The Spinola doesn't have a fitness center, though there are public gyms that hotel staff can recommend. Staff can also direct guests to nearby public parking (fee), as there isn't any on-site.
