The four-pearl Hotel Juliani is a
family-owned, 44-room boutique located on St. Julian’s seafront promenade. This former townhouse offers a contemporary vibe
and spectacular sea views, with a stunning palette of Tiffany aquas, gleaming
whites, and gentle browns. The (seasonal) rooftop terrace and pool offer a
lovely escape from the bustling streets below and there's an excellent restaurant with high-end European and Asian cuisine. Rooms are beachy and upscale, with modern bathrooms. Guests with evening arrivals should note that there's a fee for late check-in.
Scene
Boutique hotel with sea views and cosmopolitain ambiance
The Hotel Juliani is a family-run, but nevertheless cosmopolitan, boutique
overlooking a harbor filled with fishing boats. It's set on
St. Julian’s busy main street but manages to maintain its breezy oceanside ambience thanks largely to an oceanic decor scheme featuring shades of navy, aqua, white, and brown. Common spaces are peppered with ceramic pieces made specifically for the hotel and paintings by Maltese artist Pippa Toledo, and there's also a library of books on Maltese culture and art. The lobby has a glass facade through which guests can watch the locals (and visiting yacht owners) come in to town for the night and there's an old-fashioned and cavelike nook off to one side. There's also a rooftop terrace and pool, with a romantic poolside bar, though it's only open in the summer months. The vibe is modern but welcoming and the property attracts both vacationers and business travelers, along with some honeymooners.
Location
On the waterfront, surrounded by restaurants and shops
The Hotel Juliani is located on St. Julian’s
busy main street, in a lively, restaurant- and shop-filled area overlooking
picturesque Spinola Bay. There's a bus stop just outside, and the hotel is in a
convenient spot for getting around the area. In addition, there is free
parking, a rarity for hotels in the area. Business travelers will find the
hotel convenient to many of the area’s biggest conference centers; gamblers
will feel the same about the proximity to casinos. Balluta Bay Beach is a 10-minute walk
from the hotel, as is the Bay Street shopping center and much of the nightlife of Paceville. Spinola Garden and the Santa Rita Steps are also within a short
stroll. It's a 45- to 50-minute walk
along the waterfront to reach the Sliema-Valletta Ferry.
Rooms
Fresh and breezy, with spectacular sea views and modern bathrooms
Rooms at the Hotel Juliani are breezy, spacious, and
clean. Some have beautiful sea views, but these tend to cost extra. Despite
the hotel's location on a busy street, rooms are soundproofed and noise shouldn't be a
problem. Rooms are bright and modern, with touches of brown, aqua, and
navy that contribute to a contemporary seaside feel. Even the TV frames are white, which, along with light-wood furniture, contributes to the airy and nautical vibe. Abstract
paintings hang on the walls and locally made ceramic lamps give the spaces a homey feel. Amenities include air-conditioning, minibars, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, DVD players, and safes. Bathrooms are small but modern, and many have jetted tubs (with showerheads).
Features
Fine dining, fresh sushi, buffet breakfast, and a substantial wine cellar, along with a rooftop pool
The Hotel Juliani features a seasonal rooftop terrace
with a pool, a bar, and free fresh lemonade, with spectacular harbor and sea views. Zest -- the
on-site restaurant -- offers fine dining in a contemporary space. The menu combines European and Asian cuisines,
and there's even a sushi bar serving fresh local fish along with an extensive selection of wine.
Juliani Cafe -- in the lobby -- serves a delicious buffet breakfast that includes
eggs and other hot items, but it's not included in room rates. Light meals and
snacks are available throughout the day, and room service can be ordered from both the cafe and Zest. The Juliana offers several meeting rooms and event spaces, with catering, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The hotel has a small on-site fitness center with a few cardio machines, free weights, and TRX equipment.
